newbie's first post and boot question

what's up everyone, newbie here (god this is embarassing ). Been trolling for a while and since I am picking up my bike on saturday, time to post up. I am good friends with McBigs, so watch what you say to me...joking

Anyways picking up a 00 650sv on saturday, and Mike has been kinda enough to lend me some of his extra gear while I piece my own set together, even though the jacket is kinda tight, he is a little guy ya know. Got everything excpet for boots....
I am wondering how people feel about the street (low cut) boot rather than the full race boot?

    example:
    newenough.com/closeouts/boots/sidi/scorpion_motorcycle_boots.html
i guess you have to cut and paste cus newbs cant post links

    Welcome.

Don't buy those low cut boots, they don't give you as much ankle protection and broken ankles suck.

Of course, if you ask RandyO, riding around in shorts and a ripped t-shirt is the way to go.....

+1 Since I got my Vertebras, I wear them as much as possible except to work or if im going to be on my feet a lot. In my humble opinion, you are better off with high cut work boots than those low cut riding boots.

Randy feels the same as I do, use gear or not . Just don't tell me I have to.

You can always go the tan constuction boot route too. Those are affordable and give you ankle protection.

I have been happy with my Icon Superduty boots (about the only good Icon product I have bought)

i like those boots too. seems like its something you can walk around in once you get your destination.

But it seems as though the majority says full high cut race boots.....or is it just over the ankle that we are worried about? Those superduty boots are over the ankle just not calf high...

All it takes is one time for you to hit your ankles on your pegs and you'll know why you want ankle protection. I have chipped my ankle bone before doing that. It does not feel good.

Pick up some boots and Wally world. You can prolly get even get some steel toed ones.

I have a set of Teknics, I'm not sure what model, but they are the entry level ones. I can walk around fine in them, there has been more than one occasion when I rode to work and ended up wearing them for the day because I forgot my damn shoes.

I put some love into the trailer, looks good considering my carpentry skills are nil. Lucky I still have all my fingers!

Yes. Just get the race boots since one day you'll probably end up at the track anyways. Why buy boots twice unless you outgrow them or wear them out.

Or you can do what I did and get one of each. I have a pair of Sidi's for the track and more spirited riding and a pair of Alpinestars stunt shoes for when I am riding around town or I will be walking a lot.

I guess I'm the only one who actually likes the look of those short sidis.

They too pricey for me to pull the trigger on, but they look like they'd be a better option than a lot of footwear that I see people wearing.

That being said... I do like my vertigos and they are comfortable... but I could see me wearing those on days I ride to work and don't have another pair of shoes to change into.

I'd rather have those sidis on my feet than the icon boots.

I have a pair of Oxtar TCS Evo boots and they area insanely comfortable... obviously you're not going to want to run the marathon in em, but I've worn em into stores and such and walking around in em isn't a problem.

check out those setup boots. I got them in black & they're very discreet.
i am kinda diggin those SetUp Pegaso boots. Look like they are really comfy. Although the Oxtar SS might be a better all around shoe. But my eye keeps going back to Sidi Escape Boots and the price on newenough is tough to beat, and if i ever do forget shoes i wont look like such a dumbass. Mind you I work for a pharma company and need to go into clean rooms everyonce in a while. And booties will not due racing boots any justice.
