Here's Markbvt and my RR from last summer. It's an awesome trip; go as soon as you can, before they pave it all!

Just watch the first 40 seconds to get an idea of the dust and trucks. I made the trip last year, it was fun. This video is me on a DL1000 which performed very well. I have a bunch more on my channel of various points on the trip. They are in 1080p if you care.

If you need another rider, post up. I'd be in.

Committed to going to NC this fall with Clayton + my new track toy + the few track days I eeked out => blown wad for the year. But next year I will be recharged.

Re: Newfoundland/Labrador ride reports. Paging MarkbVT...

Didn't see this till this morning, apologies for the delayed reply. But yeah, David already posted the link to our RR from last year. You can also find my two other Labrador/Newfoundland RRs in my ride reports link below.

Ride the Trans-Lab as soon as you can, because they're actively paving it. By next year almost the entire stretch between Lab City and Happy Valley-Goose Bay will be paved, also most/all of the stretch between Manic 5 and Gagnon, and they'll probably have started paving the section between Red Bay and Port Hope Simpson. It won't be too much longer before the whole thing is paved.

And plan enough time to explore Newfoundland a little. Ten days is not enough IMO.

And Mick, I wish I could join you for Alaska, but there's no way I'm going to be able to make that work.

Re: Newfoundland/Labrador ride reports. Paging MarkbVT...

Thanks Mark. I wanted to head out to Banff (bucket list) but after looking at the mileage and the amount of time I think I can swing, I don't think that I can make it that far and back and actually enjoy it so I started looking closer. Been to New Bruns and I like the roads there so I was thinking Scotia but I'd really like to go the other direction. I was looking at Sask and Manitoba too but with about 2000+mi just out there, it's a haul.

Mick knows baiting me into AK has my mind going cause that's a dream trip for me and going with Mick would make the ride, work and family get in the way of a trip like that, it may just be too early to do it for me - already taking the kids to Disney in April so there's a week of time-off burned up.

Yeah, Mick dangled that carrot in front of me too last time I saw him, and I agree, it's a dream trip for me too. But for me part of the dream is having six weeks to do the trip, and riding all the way there and all the way back. And there's no way I can do that anytime soon, between work and finances.

Labrador/Newfoundland is a pretty good substitute though if you have to stay east of the Mississippi. It's like another planet up there.

    Hey Jim
Next summer and as long as it takes
    just grabbed a cheap gs1200
    so that should do nicely
Toying with shipping the thing to san fran and riding up and then home.
There's a couple of spots I missed on my last trip and I gotta go there
    to satisfy the itch.
    Whatcha riding these days?

If you ship to San Fran I may be down. No way I'm riding all the way from here.

what year gs? i have a gas tank from a 08 gsa

work has been unbelievably busy and i've been thinking about selling my gsa

if we go were taking the toy hauler to ak via the ferry and shredding ak.

as it is i think i'd rather ride the super enduro over the gsa

Along with the legions of Harleys.

But I won't lie, I'll go back and ride it again once it's all paved so I can actually see the scenery. Riding the gravel, you have to focus so intently on reading the road itself that you don't get to look around much except when you stop for a break. I could describe many different kinds of gravel in excruciating detail, but I was a little surprised to find on my last trip (with about half the section between Lab City and Goose Bay paved) that the newly-paved sections were basically an entirely new ride for me because I could actually see what was around me.

I'm glad I did it when it was all gravel though. The experience of being that far out in this desolate semi-tundra landscape, on hundreds of miles of dirt, is one I'll never forget. The feeling you get out there is like nothing else.

    Thats so true
it's a spectacular ride and well worth doing while the chance still exists.

Hey Jim let me know if you want to sell your GSA
    I'm interested.
