My riding season ended suddenly and not like I ever predicted

Nothing like a blood clot to break free and put an end to the season. Luckily I was home and not alone, was an hour away from taking a ride. Caught it in time and only one night in the hospital after traumatic pain. Anyway on the injured reserve so to speak.

High cholesterol I guess. Clot broke free and blocked an artery. Angioplasty showed it. I'll probably be posting here more than usual as I'm on a regiment of rest.

    Glad youre doing ok.
I headed to docs with chest pains and shortness of breath last wednesday. Ran all the tests and suspected a clot on a lung.
Turns out I have pleurisy. Scared the shit out of me though.

Thanks all. Off to cardiologist today for follow up. Scary time in driveway waiting for rescue and scary in ER waiting for meds to take effect. Pain was intense and hard to breathe.

I have nothing to add except to +1 what everyone else has commented: Glad it wasn't worse and all the best for a quick recovery.

No signs for this sort of thing huh? Ech..

Thanks. Dr said minimal damage. Just rest a couple weeks. I'm going to ship the bike to a friends to avoid any temptation. Glad I ended the season with a couple track days and hope to hit Thompson, loudon and nyst in 2014 and meet more of you all.

also glad to hear you're alright!

now, don't skip doses on your meds! even the cholesterol one has been shown to stabilize the plaques in the arteries so they don't dislodge as much

Glad you are doing okay, take good care of yourself.
Years ago a friend of mine lost his dad due to a blood clot gone rogue. I remember learning that donating blood past 30 reduces the risk of heart disease by a significant factor.
Quick google search produced this blast from the past http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases...0901072035.htm

Can any one with a medical background or experience validate this? Might help both donors and recipients.

Glad you made it! Go gluten free. Cleans out the pipes pretty quickly. Won't need cholesterol meds in very short time frame.
