Possible NH laws for helmets and exhausts

The NH House has two bills in the transportation committee.

    One for helmets, HB 1162
    http://www.gencourt.state.nh.us/legi...10/HB1162.html

    And the other for exhaust/emissions
    http://www.gencourt.state.nh.us/legi...10/HB1261.html

You can reach committee members by email

I agree with mandatory helmet laws, but not the exhaust laws.

If you're not wearing a helmet to ride, you're just plain stupid anyway.

I only agree with a helmet law if insurance goes down because of it. Otherwise if you're too stupid to wear the gear it's your own damn fault. It's not the government's job to dictate what should be common sense to the masses. If that were the case I know some people that belong in jail for demonstrating a complete lack of common sense at all times.

Even with a law its still your choice. They already tell you what your max speed is adn its your choice to follow it or not. Is it really that far a stretch to have them consider what you wear as well?
I look at helmets on bikes like seatbelts on cars. its one of the few times I actually find no issue creating a law for.

what insurance are you crackheads talking about? Your moto insurance doesn't pay to patch you up just the bike. The medical portion of bike and auto insurance is part of the liability coverage and only pays for the other guy.

If you are talking about health insurance I would believe that the moto head injury population would not make a dent one way or the other and some health insurance policies exclude injuries from operating a motorcycle or atv.

Some good people just don't know any better when it comes to motorcycle safety. What is considered common sense to you or I may not be to an innocent victm. That doesn't mean they deserve to die, in my opinion.... Thus, if a helmet law will save that life, I'm for it.

Are you kidding me? I have State Farm and my insurance most certainly would pay to patch me up. I just did my policy so i know my coverage. It's 100k per person/300k per accident for bodily injury. It most CERTAINLY does cover me and injuries sustained if i got into an accident, my fault or not. If the other person isnt covered or undercovered then my insurance again would pick up the rest. I know this is true for most insurance companies and if it's not true for yours get a clue and get a new one.

My health insurance is another ball game. If i did need them due to an accident again i could call them in, but they'd want my auto insurance to step up.

Point taken. So we are talking about auto liability insurance. Still not sure moto expences would make a dent given the volume of auto claims but what do I know.

I do think there should be a helmet law in every state.

Not sure you want to get there with the insurance cost argument though, next thing you know there will be backprotector laws, leathers laws, airbag laws...
