    NICE DRIFT, JIM!!!

The right foot off the peg tells me he did not recover......

I hope you left it as a lowside and that back tire didn't hook back up on you.

Pulled himself right off the bike & threw it into the gravel.. perfect drift to lowside execution

here he comes into view, setting up for the drift

beautiful drift to a superb dismount execution

good push off with nice bike rotation

setting up an "up & over to kickstand finish"

aaand up onto the kickstand (not quite there yet, but trust me, it stopped on the kickstand perfectly

Yeah, pretty good right? Tougher to do the slower you go, from what i've heard.

not sure what the final damage report was but i'm pretty sure he was able to ride it later in the day

I love how we have boulders in our runoff. That's safe.

You'd have to ask Jim, but i'm pretty sure he probably just spun up the rear.... if that's the case, the thing he did right was he didn't snap the throttle closed... he held it so it didn't abruptly regain traction & throw him up & over in a beautiful highside.

With that lean angle, that would have been a hell of a highside too, wouldnt it?

    NICE DRIFT, JIM!!!

If I remember right it was the 4'th or 5'th lap. Had been progressively picking up the speed to warm the tires. Wasn't pushing hard throught the turn as i don't like to pass in the bowl. Just riding it through till I could make the pass on the straight. Following throught the turn and the next thing I know the rear end was gone and I was pavement dancing. Jaynuss got good practice at not target fixating as she was right behind me. Talked to her after and asked if she had noticed me do anything wrong and she said that everything looked fine and then the rear just went out. The tires on the bike are Pilot Sport with under 100 miles but are original to the bike and that makes them 4 years old. Talked with Tony afterwards and he is the one that thinks it may be an age issue which sounds very resonable seeing that I worked in a rubber factory for 13 yrs and rubber never really stops curing and continues to harden. looked at the tires after each session and they seemed to be wearing nicely and getting plenty of heat. After the lowside it looked like it had no heat and was "polished". Got back to the pits and checked it and after two sessions got it back out for the last two of the day. Once agian the tires looked good after each. Will be getting rid of them though for Pilot Powers.

    Damage list as of now,

    front fairing bracket broken
    screen
    upper and lower
    tail
    bent clutch lever (straightened)
    tank dented
    swing arm scuffs
    slider
    case cover scuff
    exhaust bracket bent
    pipe dented
    slight twist to forks (staightened)

*sigh.... All that to a bike w/ less than 100 miles on it since it left the factory

Glad you weren't hurt bro.... I was definitely suprised to see ya up there, you're one of the last guys I expected to see standing on the side of the track.

Pic #2 with the boot in the frame rulez.

Taking pics is weird... goes against everything you should do on a bike... when taking pics, if someone crashes you follow that shit... if you're on a bike, on the other hand, well... you don't really want to follow that shit...

    Absolutely!!

I was right behind him and it seemed the back tire just lost traction and the rest is history. It was definately a test for my mind...which way is the bike going, which way is Jim going...oh shit it's Jim...damn the thoughts were going through my head fast but Tony has drilled it into me...focus...and look where you want to go....I had my hand up before they even had the red flag up in the tree stand...finished the lap and pulled into hot pit...I felt like my heart was gonna beat right out of my chest!!

Definately a reality check when you see it happen in front of you and you have to make the quick decisions in order to save yourself.

I am glad your ok Jim!!

....and just when I was following you and staying with ya...damn it!!

Those sequence of pics as you might guess was a snap decision. I was panning back to the bowl when it happen and my lens was on zoom so the shots were tight. It was try to zoom out and get more of the action which would show the bike and rider(but might not have enough time) or stay in it and pick either Jim or the bike to shot. I picked the bike. What I didn't do was a rapid fire of shots. By the time the brain processes all thats going on my finger was still in single shot mode.
