    Well, Nice knowin ya

    Great, just great. AMF.

National statistics on motorcycle fatalities show a curious trend: Whereas in 1975, 80 percent of motorcycle fatalities involved riders 29 years old or younger, now the age group with the most fatalities is 50 and older, at 35 percent, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, a nonprofit highway safety research group funded by auto insurance companies. Ninety-one percent of those killed in 2015 were male.

It's hard to have a fatal accident while steering with a video game controller from your couch, apparently.

I dunno if I would blame that as much as it might be more older guys picking up motorcycles late in life and getting themselves killed? Definitely a mass increase in people learning to ride motorcycles post midlife crisis these days I think

    Re: Well, Nice knowin’ ya

This has been a discussion point for a long time. As one of the fastest growing demographics in the motorcycling community it's going to have high fatality numbers, but the RATES are still more or less in line w/ the rest of the age groups.... the data is affected by older males who are buying bikes after decades of either wanting one for the first time or wanting to relive their teens/twenties when they first started riding but had to give it up due to "adulting" reasons.

I aim to stay alive by never giving it up for adulting reasons.

This cohort has always had a huge number of riders. For some time they’ve identified “Reentrant” riders as being at risk, what they call “Retreads” in the article.

Because this group is large and affluent, there’s going to be more of those. Personally I didn’t ride for 10 years ending 2007, and even though I retook the MSF ARC, didn’t really feel on top of my game for a few more years and a few more courses.

Credit dried up some and it's not as easy for teenagers to get into a crotch rocket now. All that's left is the older Harley crowd that can't ride for shit

Teens are getting Harley's now. Crotch rockets aren't cool anymore. Sportsters, dynas, fat bobs...etc. See it all the time with kids going through MSF. Harley wheelies are the big thing.

    i am that

    Fun fact for you aging

Due to the decrease in strength of connective tissue

There is an escalating scale of injuries resulting from an impact.

The same crash like to the chest that an 18 year old would shake off and go about his day
Would kill a 70 year old outright

    Globe 2010.

    • rib fractures nationwide were twice as common among injured riders over 40 than younger bikers.
    • roughly 32 percent of injured riders over 40 required treatment in hospital intensive care units, compared with just 27 percent of those younger than 40.
    • the over-40 group was more likely than younger riders to wind up with complications, such as pneumonia, blood clots, or infections.
    • older riders were up to twice as likely to die from less severe injuries.

What the article left out: “39% of motorcycle owners in the US are between the ages of 51-69.”

So we’re apparently 39% of the riders but only 35% of the riders.

“So I got that goin for me.”

How can teens afford Harleys?? You sure they aren't borrowing their parents bikes?

From what I've seen of the /r/motorcycles subreddit, most millenials are interested in nakeds, retros and hacked up UJMs.

Met a couple kids last weekend at Sergio's bday party at Naskart. They stunted harleys. Couldn't believe it. Saw some video of him twelve o'clocking a dyna wide glide with no modifications except switched to chain drive.
