    Beginner Bikes under 2 grand

So i think i'll be looking for my first bike in a bit. I've already planned to take the MSF course and everything...got my permit last year but i haven't touched a bike since.

I already have a good list of bikes to look at, but i'm thinking maybe you guys can give me some more ideas. Basically I want a good beginner bike 600 cc's or less. I want to spend under 2000 dollars and the cheaper the better! I only plan to use the bike for this year, and if i don't kill myself i'll get something better next year. So any suggestions besides what i've listed?

    so far i've got:
    Kawasaki Ninja 500
    Yamaha Fizzer 600
    Honda cbr f2
    Suzuki GS500

next year i'll probably get an sv650...i love the naked look.

The Ninja 600R is a 600cc precursor to the ZX-6 and can be bought under $2,000.

i personaly don't like the looks of them but you can check out tht suzukis gsx600 Katana or so called Can-O-Tuna, they usually sell used for cheap and since they are ugly it won't matter if you dump it and scratch it up

Looks are subjective. At least with the Can-O Tuna, the engine is this side of indestructable. Also, anything that can make an oil cooled gixxer motor go better will work on the Kat. So if you find a good one cheap, and you like it, the sky is the limit. Check out Maxiumum-Suzuki.com. Lots of horsepower hungry oilheads over there. Just a thought.

Try to find a Suzuki Bandit 400. It's a very cool bike that spanks a GS500 and looks like any other Bandit (does not say 400 anywhere on it). It has a nice inline 4 cyclider liquied cooled engine and a great exhaust note. They were sold here in 91, 92 and 93. Kinda hard to find though. Too bad ours is not for sale

A good thing about the Ninja 250 or 500 is that you really won't get "bored" with them. I learned on a 250 and learned that I didn't like it that much..I now have an SV650S (not naked) and love it. Because I got the bike super cheap, I had the money earlier in the summer to buy the 650. They have great resale value, and beginners are always sprouting up needing learning bikes.

BTW, said 250 that I learned on was my fiance's first (reiobard). You can ask him about it - he really liked it, and would still ride it occasionally if we still had it.

it is true, the 250 is a fun little bike and very nimble ,only real complaint i has about it was that it couldn't really deal with the highway.... i wish we had kept it for inner city riding, something to beat on a bit. Someone once told me "It is more fun to ride a slow bike fast than to ride a fast bike slow."

as far as the Bandit 400, there is one at RJ's motorsports in nashua for 1999.99 with 15,860 miles check out http://www.rjsmotorsport.com/ and go to the used section it is under "standard" bikes, looks pretty nice.
