    Nurburgring Visit

I'm going to Belgium for work in a few weeks, and will be somewhat close to the Nurburgring. I was thinking about taking a trip out there over the weekend. Has anyone ever visited? Is it worth seeing on a weekend with no events planned? I've looked into bike rentals, seems like it is almost impossible under 25. Maybe better luck with a car?

If you are bored with nothing to do, then make the trip and watch a few cars drive by, the scenery in and around the track is awesome. so much history there.

I've been there for the 4hrs endurance race as well as for open track weekends.

Car rentals at the track are really expensive, but fully prepped and in good condition.

All (normal) rental vehicles (cars and bikes) in Germany and Belgium are flagged at the entrance to the track, you will be fined by the rental agency (I've heard rumors that those range from a couple hundred euros to the full value of the car).

I usually pick up a rental in France and make the drive over fully knowing that I'm driving on track with an econobox. Moto rental has yet to be successful, since every bike I've almost rented was not track worthy (worn tires, low brakes, leaky seals, etc...), at least not on that track....

But there are some serious fees associated for the less than 25y/o, Some dealership have self provided rental programs. Do your research.

Also, watch for the speed cameras heading to and from there... there are a fair share... ask me how I know.

I'll be there in October again.

That is true. I almost shat myself when I was over there and I stumbled upon this statement the morning that I intended to take my Hertz rental to the Ring. I ended up doing the tourist lap, but I stayed at highway speed. I didn't end up with any fine, but you do NOT want to return the car with chewed-up tires and vaporized brake pads. Some companies may be stricter on this than others. I even cleaned the brake dust off of the wheels when I returned to the hotel!

TBH, I would save the anxiety and just get a proper Ring rental. Under 25 will be tough, though.

Also, if you plan on filming your lap, be low-key about it. Filming on tourist laps was verboten last time I was there. Bottom line is that it's an unforgettable track and worth the experience. The car porn sitting in the parking lot alone is worth the trip.
