They want you to get drunk so you sign the dotted line on that bike with $5,000 mark up. Can’t wait for this market to ease up.

You say that like Harley has had trouble in the past getting people to pay stupid prices for inferior products...

with liability awards I have seen after events like this, I am surprised any business would take the risk, wonder if they are familiar with exclusions in their insurance policies

Depending on the community, they may need a 1-day license, which would stipulate Safe-serve trained personnel. Not that it will make a difference. If someone has to “lay ‘er down” there’ll be an ambulance chaser alleging that the dealership, “plied my client with alcohol and loose wimmins”

However, even if they do a great job on the beer, their real risk is not catching someone “arriving with a foreign load” from pre-gaming elsewhere. The liability hits the LAST establishment…

The 'inferior product' narrative is so outdated and lame. I've owned 3 Harley touring bikes after owning a dozen or so street bikes from 5 different manufacturers and the Harleys were the most trouble-free, 'hop on and ride thousands of miles' bikes I've owned out of all of them. As for pricing? The entire bike market is insanely inflated, with nearly everyone thinking their clapped out 15 year old gixxer is still worth $6k. Harleys hold their value very well but in terms of MSRP they're right in line with every other comparable model from other manufacturers.

I have no problem with their quality and pricing is up to them.

This “event” tells me a lot about where the dealers still see the demographic. HD’s longstanding challenge has been to grow their market beyond pirates on parade.

Based on what I'm seeing, the demographic has drastically expanded in the past 5-10 years. I've seen more and more early/mid 20's riders rocking sportsters and dynas as of late.

Right, I think the point is that the above mention Pirate Party doesn't really help HD

There’s a new sporty looking Sportster, specifically in green that I think looks sick

    High Octane pirates on parade!-b0c5098e-cb8f-47a2-8aad-03decbdef153

But, I think outdated tech was justified until maybe the 103.

I had issues with my 107, my brother had issues with his 103.

I don’t think Harley is completely innocent in some of the hate it gets.

And I think fairly recently other manufacturers started catching up on msrp.

So while harley always charged a premium, it’s curious why it seems I hear about trouble in the water. Poor management?

I was at High Octane last week getting an inspection. Had to wait, so I walked around. Asked 3 different people on the sales floor, "do you have the new LiveWire bikes? Got 3 different replies:
    "Ask the desk"
    "Check with parts."
    "We might upstaris."

They are Hank Hill. No other knowledge of motorcycles exists in that building, they only know how to sell H-D and H-D accessories.

Well, to be fair, I wouldn’t expect good info on electric motorcycles from t-shirt salesmen.

Their prices are top heavy. I’ve always had the opinion the only safe way to buy from National is new Triumph, because they have “no dealer fees”.

… but… because of the current market, they started charging freight, which I get, because Suzuki and others are charging shipping surcharges… but their surcharges are like $150 on top of freight.

Nationals was like a full fee on top of a purchase that typically has no fees.

Plus I bought two “opportunity vehicles” from them, first had both cylinders leaking oil, and the second is being gone through by a shop right now….

    But… crazy inventory!

At least Massachusetts has this going for it :

Being drunk in public, whether at a concert or while outside a pub, isn't a crime in Massachusetts, and hasn't been for more than 40 years. In 1971, the state amended a Colonial-era law prohibiting public drunkenness.

Dollar beers on a Friday night at a motorcycle dealership in Mass.

What could ever possibly go wrong ?

National Powersports USED TO have decent prices. I bought that Low Rider from them and it was a good deal. I even went back to them with the goal of buying a Street Glide from them because their prices were so good. Unfortunately they blew the deal because they wouldn't toss in a new mounted, balanced & installed tire. Which actually worked out good because shortly after that, shit hit the fan with the 'Rona and I got a smokin' deal on my SGS at an actual Harley dealership. Now their prices are off the hook.

It is however, illegal to serve alcohol to an intoxicated person in a public venue.

I just bought a 15' street glide from them. Priced a little high but nothing outrageous. Bike has upgraded led lights, bars (mini apes), grips, Rineheart exhaust etc.. The mechanical inspection they do is bullshit. I need to adjust the clutch as it won't go to neutral even when its indicated and when you start it cold with the lever pulled to the bar it still tries to move. Hoping thats all it is as the closest dealer is Meredith H-D which sucks getting to in the summer.
