Post Ok heres my plan for my custom exhaust

Ok , if anyone finds any flaws with this please tell me . . ..

Ok the stock SVS has a 2 1/8 " inlet , and the supertrap ATV slip on has 2" inlet . . . so I'm gonna get the converter from autozone and then weild it or maybe clamp it ? together . . . then see how it runs and then jet it or what ever . . . . . Heres a pic of the exhaust . . .

Heres a pic of someone who did it to a SV street fighter with dual exhaust . .

Still think you should just wait and buy a nice complete system instead of risking damaging your stock components.

If you DO decide to weld it, make sure you have a skilled welder to it. You don't want thin spots in the weld that will break very quickly.

    About that picture.....

Wouldn't it have been easier and cheaper to buy a Speed Triple?

If you are stuck on doing an exhaust on the SV but can't afford the full system, get a slip on... they are cheap and readily available and won't require welding (will require cutting stock pipe, but if you are willing to weld on an exhaust that wasn't designed for the bike in the first place, you shouldn't have a problem with this)

No, I don't consider 'the muffler guy' a competent welder. Find a welder that works on Hardleys... best welding I have ever seen is the work a custom bike builder did on the bottom of his oilpan..

Slip on is cheap man, save a coupla hundred and you are golden... If you like that and wanna do more then save for the full system...

Honestly, if you are stuck on modding an SV the best things to be looking at upgrading is the suspension (unless of course you got a 2003) Best thing you could do for the SV is gsxr front end and a much nicer adjustable rear shock... Both parts you could get from junk bikes and would give you tons of knowledge about the really IMPORTANT parts of your bike

    Cheers,
    Chris

But when we ride very fast motorcycles, we ride with immaculate sanity. We might abuse a substance here and there, but only when it's right. The final measure of any rider's skill is the inverse ratio of his preferred Traveling Speed to the number of bad scars on his body. It is that simple: If you ride fast and crash, you are a bad rider. If you go slow and crash, you are a bad rider. And if you are a bad rider, you should not ride motorcycles.

How much do you plan on spending for the Supertrapp? There are other manufacturers that make slip-ons with a 2 1/8" inlet. My Vance & Hines ss2r is 2 1/8' I believe. There are others too.

    Kids....Huh?

I'm an old fart, I bet you I can kick yer SV's ass with me riding a Kaw EX 500....

Just ride the bike....If you start screwing with differnt pipes, that weren't made for the machine, you can be opening up a big can of worms....

Spend your money on a day at Penguin school...You will learn to go faster there, than a set of pipes will. Plus you will learn to be SAFE!

Just say the word, mine could probably use a bit of track prep but you're more than welcome to it

Watch out though, Nate drags peg on his SV

As fast as you can think. But not any faster than that.

I'd love to see this. What kind of stock suspension does the EX500 have? The SV should absolutely crush the EX500. Even with its crap stock suspenders!!

I'd definately leave the bike stock until you've had it for awhile.. who knows you may get tired of it and want something else. And if you must get a pipe, I'd recommend a renegade slip-on and a jet kit. Best thing you could do for the bike to make it faster though is to get some cartridge emulators and some new fork oil up front (you may want stiffer springs depending on the kind of riding you do and your weight) and get a 99 gsxr rear shock off of ebay and have it revalvled for your weight.. pretty cheap for what you can get out of it..

So you are trying to tell me, that because you can scrape your pegs, you can ride well?

My RZ/TR3 never touched the pegs down when I raced, and I went really fast! Maybe it was because they were so high?

Easy Mark, that was me saying that, not the kid. And I realize that scraping pegs/knees is not necessarily an indication of riding ability. I'm just jealous because I can't do either
