One's mans scrap is another mans treasure!!!!

Asked to use some scrap at work and made a plate bracket for my SV which will be street worthy tomorrow!

Not too shabby for 20 minutes of work with all the right tools!

Nice job. You should go into business and put those ridiculously overpriced yet underquality Comp Werkes pieces of junk out of business.

I assume the tabs on each side arefor the blinker mounting? I need to put new blinkers on my bike tonight before I get a sticker for it. I also have a home made plate holder, going to be adding blinker brackets and cat eyes after work.

that looks great. how thick is the plate? you got any more scrap, I could use a couple simple brackets to hold my exhaust on. let me know if you're interested in making a couple bucks.

Re: One's mans scrap is another mans treasure!!!!

The tabs are indeed for directionals in case the intigrated tail doesn't pass inspection.

I used a very large band saw at my factory with a metal blade, all cuts were free hand & came out straight enough to my liking.

There's not much of this thickness aluminum scrap around the shop, I'll be grabbing what ever I can as I'll need to fab some more brackets for the full bodywork I'm getting next week

A friend is opening a machine shop so I might look into some tooling myself for his place for fabbing stuff. He is always interested in machining motorcycle parts. He also has a very reasonably priced powder coater!
More details on his shop soon!

Not looking, nor have much oppertunity to use this equipment, this work I did on a break.

Cool deal, I used to work for a CNC laser manufacturer and got to play all the time...

I think you may want struts to support... over time the bend will get fatigue cracks from bouncing around... this can be done by welding little supports perpendicular to the plate across the bend, or cut another one with tabs and fold it in a break press and tack-weld.

If its only aluminum, you can cut it with pretty much any band saw.

And I assume you used a pan and box brake to do the bends?

could have made it a little smaller since you dont need plate support at the bottom, but thats just me. ill have a whole week to make fun of it.

OP, you can get into powdercoating for the price of $100 and a free over on a craigslist. Here is a post I made about doing it yourself at home:

I use scrap all the time at work to make shit. Engineers always ask "what do you need that for?" A couple days later they have a proto ready for test thanks to a bunch of crap someone was about to throw away. Best part its calculable as a result of being made of the same materials as the original design.

    Looks good mike.
