    Need an opinion?

So on the last group ride this weekend, I lead on the way home for a short bit on rt 116. (2 up on my sprint rs) Gary(gms1000) was behind me, when we stopped at the end he said that I was leaving black rubber streaks in the corners . I didn't think I was excellerating that hard.
    could it be

    - The brand new tar
    - The fact that leah was on the back and her big fat ass was adding extra weight ? Although I have done several thousands of miles with her 2 up and never had anyone point this out before.

    - my tires (bridgestone 020 's )

I looked at the tires when I got home and they had normal wear marks on them, not balled up from excess heat or anything like that.

    any ideas?????

probably a combination of new tires & the extra... um.... gravitational force on the rear of the bike (no offense leah )

but that's just what tires do when ya start pushin em a little. Just means they're gripping & doin their job

    More weight = more friction.

My guess is the combination of Slipstones & fresh pavment, along with you dialing more throttle to get out of the corners (more torque applied to move the increased mass) overwhelmed the available traction, resulting in more of a "smear" rather than a "burn."

    Need an opinion?

Well here is the thing, I have done 10's of thousands of 2 up sport riding miles with leah on the back. This is the 3rd set of 020 tires and they have probably 1500 miles on them , and in fact we were riding slower than in the past which is making me think it was more the new pavement than anything else.

We were on 116 south I didn't really look at the speedo but if I had to guess I was entering most corners at 40 - 50 and exiting at 60ish.

that could be but I didn't change from what I normally run

    32 / 30

The only reason that I even asked this question is that I haven't changed anything at all , the bike is set up as it always is, tire pressure, suspension, etc....... in fact if anything the only thing that is different was the pace was a bit slower than normal. I didn't feel any slip or or loss of traction , everything seemed normal.

For all I know I have been leaving streeks all over the place, but no one has ever mentioned it , or noticed it before.

    perhaps I'll never know..............

different batch of tires is my guess, I don't think the tire mfg process is 100% consistent, I been running Azaros for over 70k, not every set wears exactly the same, I can't imagine that Bridgestone is ay more consistent

32/30 sounds WAAAY too low for 2up riding. That's what people run on the track! It's too low for street riding 1up!!! I'd guess somewhere near 35 would be minimum for 2up perfomance.

Track pressures on the street are no good in my experience. Makes the front feel vague. Not confidence inspiring. On track they heat up to more than double street temps, and the pressure rises to 33-35. I think you want to START there for street pressures.

I've been told the same thing by folks following me while I was running a BT020 rear. They only lasted about 500 miles more than BT010s if memory serves, maybe that's why... I could make them step out under power pretty easily.

Try Conti Attacks next time. They stick better and seem to wear like iron. They have vastly prettier tread than 020s too and that's very important. They are also really inexpensive.

That ain't that fast for 116... I enter most corners at 60-65 and exit at 75ish on that road . In fact, I rolled through it on the same day as the big ride, didn't actually go with the big group, though.

Never done it 2-up, though. It is by far my favorite road in MA.

PS. Toss those bridgestone pooptires and get some pilot powers. I have over 7k on mine and still plenty of tread left, and they stick unbelievably well. I run them at 35/36 on the street, too.
