    Re: Opinions on V-Stroms

I bought in 2011. Just before the Tiger 800 hit the market. Just before the wee got its facelift. Before the Yami super-10. Before the Explorer. Used Tiger 1050's were pretty pricey.. the list goes on. About the only thing driving wee strom prices down at that time was the Versys.

There are more options available now than just a couple years ago.

My half-hearted scans of CL suggest I have once again bought high and will be selling low. If I were to sell.

This isn't necessarily a complaint. Just an observation. I've also thrown more miles at this thing than I have at any bike I've ever owned. And I average nearly 10 years/bike.

    http://rideapart.com/2013/11/2014-su...0-price-12699/

Starting at $12,699. Nicely sprinkled with a bunch of goodies I'd be buying anyway for $13,999.

76 lb.-ft. 99 HP. 502 lbs curb. 49 MPG. ~260 mile range. ABS. Traction control.

Pretty impressive. $14k seems absurd to me... until you check out the competition.

It's beauty lies in its functionality. (I hope)

Most importantly, available in khaki, so that it matches my sensible pants .

I actually kind of like the khaki..

Although the silver would be a far safer bet.

I hate the beak and the stacked headlight. And I'm concerned about the low-slung exhaust. But the luggage looks svelte.

Can't wait for these things to hit the used market.

It's misleading when bike companies strap 5'6" operators on these things to make the bikes ergos seem sizable.

Still a long and tall bike - 90".

Pretty detailed summary. Didn't realize it's gone from 996 to 1037cc and has more torque at lower rpm. Lighter, better suspension, sounds good to me. The Tiger 1050 is sportier but has a lot less room.

Does it have a 19" front? My eyes are playing tricks on me I thinks.

Yes. 17" rear, 19" front, same as earlier gens. I agree, photos make it look like the same size wheel. Specs say 19" though.

Gonna have to disagree with you here (granted, beauty is in the eye of the beholder). I think the Tiger 800 XC and Moto Guzzi Stelvio are actually great-looking bikes.

And if you include scramblers in the ADV category (and there's no reason not to), tell me this isn't a great-looking bike:

What little we've seen so far of the upcoming Ducati Scrambler is very promising too.

But yeah, the usual crop of GSes, Super Teneres, V-Stroms, etc, are not pretty. Though the new Strom is still a big improvement over the old one...!

Yup, I bet everyone cross shops the Suzuki V-Strom and the Triumph Scrambler. Excellent point.

And your beloved Tiger is just as angular and fugly as the rest of the ADV offerings. All of these things are function over form.

    Re: Opinions on V-Stroms

Those hard Trekker cases have to be good for at least a case of beer each, maybe 1.5 ea. That top box has to hold nearly 2. I know first hand you can get a 12-er in each Givi E21 he has mounted on the brush guards.

So we're looking at somewhere around a solid weekend's worth of beer right there.

    What are you all drinking?!?

    Work stuff=no beer.
I mostly drink gin. The calorie conscious ripper doesn't drink all that much beer.
