What is Bad Gas?

Ok, I'm not talkin' bout *that* kinda gas...

Seriously, I got my bike back yesterday after its 500 mile maintenance. One of the things noted was that they found bad gas and had to drain the carbs - what is "bad gas" exactly? Am I using the wrong octane or something??? Thanks!

Usually refers to old gas, too much moisture, also, old gas in the float bowls leads to varnishing.

First 500mi maintenance? Did you buy the gas last year?

most sport bikes will run on 89 oct.

Either the gas had water in it, or it broke down and started to turn into a type of varnish that can clog jets and cause all sorts of problems. If you just took the bike out of storage, or bought gas at a new place this might be the cause. When you put it away for the winter have a fresh tank of gas with Store Safe mixed in. Hope this helps. contaminated.... with water or miosture, or stale from setting a month or more without being stabilized
