Has anyone owned a Husqvarna 701?

Looking into the Husqvarna 701 and was curious how it is/was owning one. I’m not trying to compare other manufacturers

Legend has it, the only downside of owning a 701 is being exhausted from running away from all the hot women throwing themselves at you.

After seeing the commercial for its KTM cousin I picture myself on one of these doing great wheelies, power slides, awesome stoppies, and getting arrested. In reality I would loop it out, Slide across the pavement on my butt, go over the bars, and get arrested.

This is one of those motorcycles I refuse to let myself ride. The wish list is long enough already.

This will make your drz feel like more of a pig than it already is, lol.

Rick B raced one up at Loudon for a few years, too.

I sat on the newest Duke 690 at a dealer a while back and fell in love. Ergos were perfect for me and it felt super light.

Are we talking about the 701 SM or enduro. Both are reportedly very very good.

Re: Has anyone owned a Husqvarna 701?

I had a 701SM and if you like wheelies it's the best hooning bike ever made. So easy to stay at balance point with just your right hand. Pulling up 3rd gear hoons at 55mph is not a problem and just hanging out on one wheel at 40-65mph is endless fun. Now about that seat... LOL Great looking!!! Also like dating Hottie Von Hottenhiemer, it can be painful to live with for more than the 30 minutes at a time.

I have a 790 ADV-R bike and found them too alike to own both at the same time. I can hoon on the 790 ADV-R just like the 701. Sure I won't do a track day on the 790 but I do take it off road into more places that make it an excellent choice for hooning over jumps and stuff. So I found myself grabbing the key to the 790 and leaving the 701 at home. The comfort of the 790 exceeds the 701's comforts by a MILE. All day comfort and range. Sure it got hit with the KTM ugly stick 50x too many times but it is an unreal all around bike compared to the 701 series. The 701E looks the part but its really a Duke frame with long travel suspension. The front end pushes in the woods and the thing handles like a long travel street bike rather than a true dirt bike. Steering lock sucks too. The SM is a track day tool. If you plan on using it for track days then by all means get it and have fun on the street for those 30 minutes. All day rides will seriously hurt unless you spend some cash on the seat. Even then it's not an all day bike.

Also the 790 off road has more steering lock. YEP it feels lighter and easier to ride than it looks and can take on the New England bombed ATV trails. You can see where I am going here... The 701 is a great machine both in SM and E form. But the thing is not comfortable for anything besides track days or really hard woods stuff depending on the flavor. They do look freaking cool as hell though.

Re: Has anyone owned a Husqvarna 701?

The seat is like a spanking board... I think the new Duke with the same motor might have a much higher fun to comfort factor.

Re: Has anyone owned a Husqvarna 701?

Ergos aside, out of the crate butt comfort is not really something to consider when buying IMO. A Seat Concepts seat on any dual sport turns them from "sitting on a 2x4" level of comfort to "I can ride all day" level of comfort.

I wonder which is more desirable for what; 701 SM vs Duke 690.

..and I'd have a hard time passing on the 690 Duke to spend two grand more on the Husqvarna 701 Supermoto..
    Reaffirms my preconception.

I read the other link and felt the takeaway was "go buy an FZ-07"!

Re: Has anyone owned a Husqvarna 701?

I bought the KTM 690 SMC R in September and it's stupid, stupid fun to ride. I bought the comfort seat and have had no issues on long rides. It's a perfect bike for the street all around, and I can't wait to take it to the track. I understand the 701 is basically the same bike. KTM was running great financing deals on leftover 2020s if you can find one. Not sure about Husky. I used to have an SXV 550 and this bike is better all around.

Re: Has anyone owned a Husqvarna 701?

    2017 701SM owner here.

As others have mentioned it really depends on the way you plan to use it. Track days, fun as can be. Quick around town rides/afternoons bombing around local towns etc, also fun as can be. Day long trips/long highway rides, not the correct tool for the job (theoretically this can be rectified by the addition of an aftermarket seat).

Maintenance hasn't been any issue at all. Keep it with clean oil and do the typical maintenance and haven't had any issues crop up.

Another thread/member on here reminded me that worldwide they are known for having issues with the hydraulic clutch slave cylinder o-ring failing and some complain about false neutrals/popping out of gear. My slave cylinder hasn't been an issue as of yet. The false neutral/popping out of gear has happened but after reading up about it I started making firmer more purposeful shifts and the issue all but disappeared. Comes back sometimes if I am riding/shifting lazily. There is an upgraded shift star or drum, something of that nature, available that supposedly takes care of the problem.

The later models with the twin counterbalancers make them better as far as vibes through the handelbars that typically plagues big thumpers. Think you said you would be buying new so this would be the case.

    Joel
