Oh GOD...can't find a freakin' spring!

Someone PLEASE tell me that I can get a lighter aftermarket rear spring for my 2000 Ducati 900SS...

I tried RaceTech, Progressive, Hyperpro, and even Ohlins, but I'm not in the market for the entire shock, just a lighter spring!

    Anyone got any sources/ideas?

If i can make this thing more comfortable, I'd rather hang on to it. Besides, the whole $$$ thing makes the new ZRX a little out of reach. One simester of college left, dammit!

The setup is already done. I have even gone as far as bring all the preload, compression and rebound to nothing, and the suspension still barely moves out back. I'm just no heavy enough to get the thing moving.

Nah... he needs a new spring...

I rode it with the preload backed all the way off and I have about 60lbs on him and it was just right for me, maybe even a little stiff.

Hey Clayton, how old is the bike? Did the previous owner ride it a lot or did he baby it?

Just curious if maybe the shock is frozen up, sticky, etc.., making it seem stiffer than if everything was working correctly.

Oh GOD...can't find a freakin' spring!

Nope, not frozen up. I have the preload backed all the way off, so it compresses just a little when i get on it, but unless I have another person on it with me then I get barely any suspension travel on bumps. I have gotten used to standing up over every bump, but it's getting a little old. As Ben said, heavier people get it to work a bit more, but most people still think it is rather heavily sprung for a normal weight person, nevermind a guy my size. Man, overweight people got it so easy......

I checked the Fox website, and they only sell fork springs, not separate rear springs. RachTech used to make a progressive spring for mine, but they discontinued it. That woulda been absolutly perfect. It was a .70/1.20. From what all the websites have been telling me, I need about a .66 for street riding with my weight for a non progressive spring. RaceTech used to make a .75 spring for my bike and that woulda done just fine, but like I said, they aren't selling it anymore. Hyperpro and Progressive sell springs for the older series 900SS, but not the 99-02's. I even went so far as to call Valley Motorsports to inquire about a spring. Their parts guy, who I have heard is pretty decent, couldn't find a place. I'm still working on some leads right now, and I'll keep you guys posted as to what happens.

The bike now has about 6500 miles on it. As far as I can tell, Tony babied the bike before I got it. There were still casting nipples an inch and a half in on the rear tire.....before Deal's Gap anyways....

I'm about to replace both tires with Michelin Pilot Sports like it comes with stock. They are 3 years old and getting pretty low on tread. Hopefully by the time I can pay both tires off, I can find a spring to throw on the back to ease my ass pain!

And selling it? Sure, it's still for sale!

Just not in a rush, that's all. If I can get the seat and suspension to make the ride a little more bearable, I may just take it off the market and enjoy it until the loan is paid off. If someone comes up to me with the asking price in cash, I'll let it go no problem.
