The paradoxial quandries and the wants & needs of a motorcyclist

    1. Naked Bike

Why? It can do so much so well. Big HP and handling is superb.

    2. Big Dual-Sport

Why? It can do wonders on pavement just pretty damn good on all but the roughest trails. Also is cheap to insure and great commuter bike.

    3. Motard

Why? Now you got the speed of the naked with the comfort, you got the utility of the ds for everything else, now it's time for a FUN bike that is utterly impractical.

    I got #1 and #2, just need #3

The paradoxial quandries and the wants & needs of a motorcyclist

    ZRX1200 - $5400
    KLR650 - $1100
    YZ250 - $500
    CB750F-SS - $350

Hmmm, that's a bit cheaper than most people spend on ONE bike!

Never let money be a factor in getting what you want for toys. Just remember that you don't always need the nicest, newest or best to have a hootenany of a good time. You remember riding the KLR after all, don't ya? Or did you forget just like you forgot to shift into second when you rode it?

hahaha I swear I thought I was at like 5k RPM

And I know full well I don't need the newest/best... don't even WANT the newest/best, i'm always out for the best bang for the buck

A big-bore dual-sport is extremely practical & versatile. Relatively cheap, too. I think I've had more fun riding my KLR650 than any other bike.

That's a no brainer, a MX bike with a motard set-up and a street plate With one single bike, you can be a hooligan on the streets, trackdays/race, MX tracks, trail rides, and dualsport riding... Oh yeah and tear up some ice in the winter to complete the four seasons of fun

You already have a sport bike, Buy a dirtbike.
That was my gameplan. Got a sportbike for the street, a racebike for the track and a fun 2 stroke dirtbike for offroading.
    All bases are covered now.

Naz, I'm leanin towards doin just that, but i'd rather have somethin i can go on and off road with & can still ride in the city.

I hear ya bro, Theres just no substitute for a 2 stroke dirtbike though.......Even a new 450cc four stroke. I love the shear power when you hit powerband

Alright I'll try and stay with the class!!

Yeah make sure you get a 4 stroke motahd cuz I've done the 2 stroke thing and however it is fun it's smelly. They call em 2smokers for a reason. Although if you run the synthetic 2 smoke oil the chicks seem to dig that smell.

Ha, riding in the city is just like riding off-road. Especially on Mass Ave, on the cambridge side, right after the bridge.

I was thinking about doing the same, but getting a smaller motard (ie. 125-250cc) because you never really top 50 unless you're on Storrow, 93, or 90.

Yeah, problem is, I often hit the highway if i'm actually goin somewhere so i'd need somethin that can handle cruisin no problem.

I'm just gonna kinda keep my eyes open.... it's more dreamin than anything but if i find a killer deal on somethin light, powerful & can do dirt & street equally well, maybe i'll jump on it.

Nazo my boy. You need to rip a CRF450 before you start making statements like that. You'll be on a 4stroker b4 long!!

I agree!! Nazo is a old school 2-smoker The new 4 strokes have a very abrupt power hit like the smokers and the 4 strokes hook up unlike the 2-smokers
The only thing I'll disagree with KB's statement is, you should rip a YZF to get the real feel for a Thumper

I've seen 101 mph on my KTM 450sx on the highway, after 80 they are not exactly stable though. I know my YZ was faster though and if I could get a street plate for a blue bike, i'd ditch the orange one in a heartbeat

It's expensive to build a motard, about $8 for a new one and probably still in the $5k range for something used

I rode your CRF 450! Do you not remember, it was about 2 months ago?
I gurantee I can put down quicker times around the dirt track on my CR250.
I love the lightweight nimbleness of a 250 Motorcross dirtbike.
A fourstroke has got a great steady power curve, But a 2 stroke just comes alive and jumps out from under ya.....right Jay
4 strokes are great for motards though

I think KB's CRF is a 450X? If so, it's not the same as the CRF450 mx bike Way different gearing in the transmission, different final drive gearing, different size rear wheel and a more corked up power output
