    Question PCIII For Stock Bikes

So heres my question. I have a stock 04 zx-6r, is it worth the investment for a power commander III or should I not worry because it is a stock bike?

not sure of your application ,but when my SV650 was stock it wans't the smoothest and it helped alot in smoothing it out. since then I added a full exhaust and k&n filter and had a custom map made for it. An inline four probably doesn't have the same smoothness problem of a v-twin.

don't worry little glasshappah.... do you really need to spend money on more power? or do you want to save it for track days

as much as i'd like to truthfully tell you i do'nt want a more powerfull bike, i'd be lying... BUT... i DO think my money's better spent on upgrading the rider, especially since it's our first year riding for both of us... and you already have a more powerful bike than i do, i don't want ya gettin TOO far ahead of me next time i see ya on a group ride

Absolutely. Every bike comes from the mfr lean through the midrange to pass emissions. Notice that dip in power and strange dry sound around 7k when you're pulling in 4th or 5th on the highway? That's a lean condition.

Emissions testing is done at part throttle, so they lean out the low end and midrange (what would be the idle jets and needle jets on a carbureted bike) to pass EPA, and fatten the top end a margin of safety against WOT detonation. Look at every jet kit ever made. Bigger idle jets, narrow taper needles, and smaller mains.

The nice thing about stock is that the basic maps should work great for your bike. Get a nice simple map in there that's designed to run around 12 A/F across the board and you'll have a better behaved bike with a nice linear power curve, crisp off idle throttle response, and a bit more top end.

It will definitely help and it's a more important/beneficial mod than a slip on exhaust.

The PCIII smoothes out the power band and throttle response, which are VERY good things. A slip on exhaust without a PCIII will probably roughen up/narrow the power band.

There has been a lot of press recently about how obsessive Valentino Rossi is about demanding a smooth broad torque curve out of his racebikes... it is even smarter on the street.

Every bike is different some need it more than others. In my case I think it made a big difference that lets me ride faster & smoother when I want too, and keeps me from tearing my hair out when I have to ride slow in traffic.

I'm not buying one today, I was just wondering because I was browsing eBay at work last night and I came across one. I will be doing a track day or two this summer hopefully, but isn't VIR in the middle of the semester? If so its a no go for me!

Thanks for all the imput guys

    PCIII For Stock Bikes

I've been reading the PC3 is great to put on even a stock bike. I was told that many bikes come setup running lean (I think) for emissions purposes. Regardless why, it'll smooth it out, and if you do mods later it's essential for tuning it.

It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?

Awesome to be back on the bike.... but it was honestly too cold out to enjoy it Love the rumble though! So you're gonna do the baffles instead of new pipes?
