whats the best price you've found on that helmet? I can see if i can get you a discount on it, of course depending on how much you can find it online for.

    perfect helmet....

i realize that Icon is the new kid on the block and its not a Shoei or an Arai but those arent the only 2 companies out there. i have Shoei street helmet and an Arai race helmet. the only reason i have that Arai is because it was $250. dropping 5 or 6 bills on a lid isnt what i want to do. Shoei is great company and im sure their lower line helmets protect as good as their hi line helmets so more $$ doesnt always = better protection. a $600 lid isnt gonna make me faster. the Icon at $300+ is still twice as much as the HJCs.....

I'd much rather have a top of the line HJC AC12 than an Icon.

From my totally non-expert observations, Icon's become so popular lately that it seems it's gotten way overpriced for the protection you get. Seems like they're only selling an image (which matches perfectly w/ the definition of "Icon"), not protection.

Not to mention they've yet to break into professional racing.... I dunno if that counts for much, but i'd immagine it would.

    perfect helmet....

I tried checking ICON's website for specs on their helmets but its being massively slow right now. But i'm sure only the Mainframe model has DOT/SNELL rating (i could be wrong).

HJC's line also has only the higher models with DOT/SNELL.

Scorpion helmets (both exo-400 and exo700) have DOT/SNELL and have much more features than HJC and ICON, and very reasonably priced. (new enough is blowing out exo-400's for 100bux i think).

Granted a Arai Rx7 Corsair is 720bux but the difference is huge IMO, safety wise it will be just as safe as any other helmet on the market that is DOT/SNELL. BUT if you wear an rx7/profile/rf1000/etc you'll notice that they are MUCH lighter, ventilation is much better, and most importantly overall quality of construction. And sure wearing an Arai over Icon won't make you faster, but if the Arai is venting better and lighter at the end of the day just those 2 things alone beat the heck out of a nasty sweaty helmet with a fatigued neck.

My job carries Scorpion helmets, so if you want to try them on and buy them online or whatever feel free.

    vents and foils

In my opinion....(for whatever it's worth)
Any helmet that is covered with special dams, vents and foils, has a tendancy to grab air, increasing both noise and head/neck pressure. A small amount of venting, enough to supply air circulation, is definately desireable, but, if you're looking to increase speed,
nothing does it like slipstream designs. Ie. Smooth surfaces.
    Just something to consider.
    Good luck with your hunt.

I'd get a Scorpion EXO. I didn't like the idea of commuting daily in my X-11 so I was going to get a lesser expensive helmet for the daily grind. I stumbled on a scorpion thread on mcadx and found alot of folks had favorable things to say:

like oreo said... check out the hjc top line they have the ac12 carbon helmets and some other high quality non-plastic helmets. I can get you a decent (25%) off of retail on those if you like them
