    Picking up a KTM RC8R

Drive 4 hours to VT, bike won't start.

We left to go get dinner and he is still messing with it.

Its a little dirty but look in pretty good shape. 4,200 miles, bone stock.

There was an old battery, it wouldnt jump. Theres a new battery now, still wont start. Jumping it off a car it turns over fast but no fire. It does have gas in it and no CEL. Pretty bummed.

He is thinking fuel filter, it does seem like a fuel issue to me. He is offering 500 off if i take it as is, or he can take it to a shop to be looked at and we can figure out something later. It is a solid 8 hour round trip drive.

I could give you 500 cash but like I said that's up to you I'm not in the business to fuck anyone like I said iv loved the bike I just don't want it to sit for 2 years but I also don't need to sell I'll keep it up to what you wanna do whatever you feel comfortable with I don't think it's a big issue seeming I rode it into the shed in September I'd say it's probly more I've a filter issue than clogged injectors iv always been pritty good about running non ethanol gas in it but also like you said it could be

I would probably plan on a worst case of pump and use that price as a discount. Still a risk though. Any chance you can get some starter fluid in that bitch just to hear a spark of life?

He was asking 12.5, i offered 10.5, he countered 11.5, but now with no start it would be 11....

Theres one other rc8r in NE for sale, a non twin spark 10 for 8500 with 18k miles.

I would say no on the starting fluid.

How bad could it be, 4,200 miles on the bike? Stock? The LC8 is a pretty stout motor.

But it is a non runner. Big risk. If I heard it at least rumble to life then maybe worth the gamble but even a motor with a hole in it will crank over. For all you know it only has 4200 miles on because he hasn't been able to start it in a decade. God knows what's actually wrong with it. You can't even part it out to recoup your money. The parts just aren't in demand.
I would cut my loses and ask him if he can cover your gas costs and dinner. If he hasn't started it since September as he says and he didn't try to fire it up 6 months later before you arrived then he at least owes you something.

Re: Picking up a KTM RC8R

    So did he?

I've been in that guys shoes before and I make sure I make it right. I had no problem paying for time, gas and whatever else just to make the other person whole, even if they didn't ask. I feel that makes me an honest seller, I'm not out to screw over anyone. If he isn't offering to cover your costs for his errors I wouldn't skip a beat on back out of the deal. If he does offer to cover your cost then maybe he is honest and worth taking a gamble on but that's only if he believes your not buying the bike. Call it a test of integrity.

Walk away. 8 hours driving is a lot less time than you’ll spend figuring this shit out.

Or he gets serious about the price to sell as a non runner. $500 off is a joke.

I’ve been in the same situation when I bought a used 2006 R1 Anniversary, the battery was bad and it wouldn’t start with a jump. I took a chance anyways and bought the bike, bought a new battery the next day and it fired up. Some bikes don’t like to be jumped, as a bad battery still pulls voltage from the system.
I’d tell the guy to go to Walmart and buy a cheap battery

They came to the restaurant we were at, bought our dinner, he is going to take it to a shop and get it fixed and meet me halfway at a later date.

What bad decision did you just make, or did someone else snake the bike out from under you?
