I hope this brings another thread when it comes to fruition. Duke or SMT??

The additional maintenance/know how is well worth it for the performance of these machines.

i've lucked out as well, not touring mileage, but 07 690SM with 18k (oil/filter changes & valve adj.) and current 13 Duke 690 only 9k, but no issues yet. Minor annoyance of a warning light for no reason here & there, but a restart or battery disconnect resets.

Really thinking of picking up a 890R, but 3 hooligan bikes is really too much....

OP, if the LC8 in the RC8 is the same as the 1x90 ADV bikes, the gear position sensor is on left side of bike near the slave cylinder.
Thank you SO much!!! Do I have to remove the side cover?

No. There's a pic posted here where you can see it:

    https://www.advrider.com/f/threads/1...taway.1192112/

It's immediately below the countershaft sprocket, held in with 2 bolts.

*Edit* That said if you replace it I believe you will have to visit a dealer to get the new one programmed.

I have found a couple wrong bolts and one cross threaded battery bolt that I am replacing.

Some damage to the carbon front fender I didnt notice

keep an eye out on Ebay, I get some great deals on brandy new KTM pieces, picked up set of genuine KTM black plastics for my 690 for like $57 shipped and got a full body work set of screws/bolts/orange washers for $18.

It's pretty easy to get the case saver (a misnomer btw) off the LC8, at least on the adventure bikes. I know the RC8 is a little different from the ADV's, though...

As for the gear sensor, if its unplugged/dead and you start the bike, it will cause the system to stop working altogether, even if you replace it with a known good one. You have to go to a dealer to have them reset it for you with their diagnostic computer.

One of the few annoying quirks of KTM.

I put that exhaust on mine and didn't map it, It ran well after, so I would say yes. I also went down one tooth on the front sprocket, I found the bike to be geared way too high in stock form,

I agree on the gearing, I may have to get that exhaust, way too quiet stock, and dont want to spend $1500 on akropovic

Go with the Akropovic. You'll always be wanting it if you don't. It's like the people that missed out on the Sato Banzai exhaust on the RC51.

Wings sells a really nice slipon for the 1290 SAR. Might be worth reaching out to them to see if they can offer something. Nothing on their website.

You have too much room in your garage and not enough motorcycles.

I agree, can't wait till the Competition Werkes fender eliminator gets here.

Looking at some KTM forums, the gear position sensor can get out of whack from a low battery, it just needs to go to the dealer and get hooked up to the diagnostic tool, so Ill try that before I change the sensor. Luckily there is one KTM dealer in Maine about 1:15 away.

I bought my 150SX from them in 2019, seemed like a decent place, but haven't used them for service so?
