I think by getting the RC8R, we are now all more collectively interested in that bike and picking them out and learning about them

very excited to see the developments

    Lol, too funny

I hope this one ends up being a good bike I can keep for a long time....

Just waiting to hear what the dealer finds. I HATE taking stuff to a dealer.

Dealer just called, the gear position sensor IS bad. They can't get one from KTM till July... I have one on order from Motosport.com, but it hasn't shipped yet.

When I had my KTM, I was always amazed at the amount of shit that Rocky Mountain ATV MC had in stock for it. And my bike was a 2005. Give them a try maybe?

AOMC is another solid spot for KTM parts. Not sure if only off road focused or they have on road parts or not though.

Apparently AOMC is not the best - see following posts from other members

AOMC is basically a drop shipper that lists most things as in stock and then takes months to ship. Also, pretty bad customer service. I do still order from them sometimes if I’m not in a rush or if there’s no other choice, but have had generally bad experiences with them.

Re: Picking up a KTM RC8R

When my subframe bolts broke, and took a bunch of parts with it, I was amazed at how many parts were on backorder for 4 months

    I had to:
1.) check each major distributor to see if someone maybe had one in a warehouse somewhere - RMATV, Chaparral, KTMtwins.com dealer etc. I found RM would have stuff my dealer couldn’t get, and there were some parts RM didn’t have that the dealer could get.
2.) aftermarket - some of this stuff isn’t even orderable anymore; luckily I found a CNC machined exhaust bracket (in orange) on Amazon. The subframe bolts were purchased as aftermarket Perun moto parts from KTMtwins.com
    3.) used/eBay/OfferUp - I grabbed one part internationally

I’d keep looking around on your own

I actually had not-so-good experience with AOMC.. but it was a while ago and I can't really remember the details.

Entirely this. AOMC has awful communication. They'll accept an order and wait weeks for it to be fulfilled while never telling you a single thing about what's going on. I've had parts arrive on my doorstep before I even got a shipping notification from them. That said they do frequently run 15% off promos for everything, which makes buying Klim gear from them a good deal. But for parts, RMATVMC is way better.

For cheaper KTM parts, if they're not in stock at RMATVMC I'll usually peruse ebay as the listings there are typically required to be in stock and ship within a certain timeframe.

For expensive (like $500 or more) KTM parts, check https://www.motorcyclespareparts.eu/en before ordering from US retailers. You can save a shit ton of money ordering from Germany and shipping is flat rate $40. I've saved well over $1000 over the past few years buying parts from them, and I've always gotten my parts within a week or so.

On RMATVMC you have to use their "OEM Parts" section, which is not part of the main website (it's a dropdown from the front page). And you can't search.

They don't have that part in stock anyhow.

AOMC used to be terrible, just like Sierra BMW/Beta out of NV, take your payment, who knows if parts are in stock or when they'll ship ... but AOMC must have gotten all the bad feedback because their system at least lists availability status now. i've found it to be pretty accurate. i order Beta parts from them now and then.

    GEAR-POSITION SENSOR
    60211023100

...is showing as available. i'd try to give them a ring to confirm. i used to have a discount code but it went dead.

EDIT: forgot to add, RMATVMC rules. place amazes me.

Re: Picking up a KTM RC8R

Those 15% off codes happen every few weeks over the weekend, they're posted on the main page of their site. The last one was $25 off $250, which isn't as great, but I believe that one expired.

Good to know. Thanks for the info. I usually use local dealer or RMATVMC have seen a lot of people refer to AOMC though.

Sometimes they have decent sales/promotions. I definitely will order from them, but never expect anything to be delivered within a month, every once in a while I get a pleasant surprise. I ordered some Kriega bags from them once because they were listed out of stock literally everywhere else. Well, they were out of stock at AOMC too, they just list virtually everything as in stock. Took 6 full months to get the bags and they were pretty nasty when I pushed them for updates or possible refund. In the end I waited it out because no one else had them in stock either.

But yeah, their selection seems really great if you look at their site, but I think they actually carry very low if any actual inventory. Best bet is to email them about actual availability before ordering and hope you get an answer and that it’s accurate.
