Ill let you know when I finally can ride it! Got the oil changed (last done in 20154) last weekend. Installed the fender eliminator and the wire guide must be wrong because right blinker is left blinker and left blinker doesn't work. Its only 4 wires so i'm worried there may be more wrong, need to dig into it.

Insane shipping costs. Really hard to tell with that parts fiche but I'm guessing it's part of this part #:

Don't know for certain but the qty needed is 2 on the seat plate kit, so my educated guess is that those are the grommets.

When it comes to accessories KTM is kinda shit at illustrating stuff in the fiche. I can't even get spare parts for the boxes that came stock on my 1290.

BTW if you want much better quality parts fiche diagrams, see here:

Does the fender eliminator include LED turn signals? Possibly just doesn't have load resistors?

Stock was LED, but the competition werkes one is incandescent, which is a bit of a bummer.

I was in a bit of a hurry, and I believed the wiring diagram so everything is soldered and heat shrinked....

Re: Picking up a KTM RC8R

Got patched up front mirrors/blinkers on till new ones come in. Traded out the incandescent blinkers from the werkes eliminator for leds, but they dont sequential blink till the end? Just halfway. Dont know what that means. Was going to put the incandescent on the ktm 500 since it has incandescent fronts and the rc8r has led fronts....

    Looks so good though.

Jester exhaust in the mail from England

Need to gear it down, stock gearing is retarded like the rc51.

Hopefully get a plate and insurance on it this week so I can ride the damn thing.

SO without having gone on a serious ride, how do the Ergonomics seem just sitting on it?? Have you needed to adjust anything: subframe, footpegs, bars etc?? I know you're a bit taller than average, and the adjustments were a positive, i'd assume you need everything at MAX..

Get that Reg & insurance, GREAT week weather wise coming up...

I actually love the ergos. I havent messed with any adjustments, but I seem to fit on it quite well. I could adjust the seat higher but Im not sure how that is done. You sit REAL deep on it, the tank is almost up to my sternum. It is a pretty long reach to the bars, but since I am tall I like that. I would imagine that this bike would be hard to ride for a small person. The shape of the seat is great, but it is as hard as plywood.

I got both bikes inspected yesterday, so I can actually go for a good ride on the thing if I ever get time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hate riding it down my dirt road though, it was so clean!

I can't comprehend how an RC51 has been mentioned in the same sentence as this bike.

Hopefully this afternoon Ill have 10 minutes to try the bike for rea l for the first time, other than riding it to the store once with no plates or insurance or just down the road to get it inspected....

So far... still haven't ridden it much....

I'm underwhelmed. It is VERY smooth, feels like an inline 4. Quite comfortable ergos, other than my hands hit the mirrors if I turn sharp. It rained for a total of 10 minutes in the last 10 days and that was the 10 minutes I had time to ride it. Even in track mode it doesn't feel as fast as I thought it would be. It does loft the front wheel as the power rolls on through. Bike seems to handle quite well, everything is so smooth. I think stock just sucks. I need to gear it up a tooth in the back, get a pipe and a tune on it. It is quite jerky at slow speeds which is a pain idling down my dirt road.

Personally I like the RC51 better so far, but I still don't regret my decision, I have had it forever and it is time for something new/different. To me the RC8R is probably the best looking bike I've ever seen. The RC51 is still the best sounding bike I've ever heard though!!!

Not sure your timeline for the tune, but I would throw these on in the mean time. Seems like they smoothed out my 1290.

Interesting, thanks. I have something similar on my KTM500EXCF.

I have the tune, I was just waiting for the Jester exhaust to come from England before I put the tune on it.

Pretty common free tune from the forum. I got the 4 pin adapter, bluetooth OBD connector, and Tune ECU on my phone already.

Can't believe KTM stopped making these. No superbikes for the street they felt, but a super duke is no slouch. A friend had one, sold it when he got into track days, then bought one again for track days, lol. I know 2 other people that have them and love them. Rode one once. Didn't seem all literbike scary in stock form, but just powerful and fun.

For sure, Id love to feel it on a track, I don't doubt lap times would be vastly different than the RC51.

    I ordered a -1 front sprocket today!

Firstly, that bike is just plain awesome to look at. My experience was that the R was soooo much nicer to ride than the non R. It's not overwhelmingly powerful, but honestly it is "sneaky fast" and probably just right for trackday work. The power delivery is such that it really doesn't need TC and all that jazz. A pipe and a tune should solve all of the lurchiness. Also, the Ergos on these are majorly comfy compared to every bike in it's category making it much easier to get op to speed on, and I would imagine it's a decent daily driver as well.

    That's all very true.

Its decievingly fast, when you look at the speedo ot seems higher than it should be.

I really do think and gearing change, a pipe, and a tune will make me a lot happier with it.
