I've worked up a pretty awesome bike trade with a great guy who lives in Missouri. We've agreed to meet in EDIT: Roanoke, VA (halfway point between us). I don't have a truck, and need one for this to work.
The always awesome QFactor offered up his big ass GMC truck, but it gets 15 mpg on a good day (downhill). That's $300 bucks in gas alone. I wanted to see what my other options were before I say yes to the monster truck.
Anyone have a Ranger or Tacoma I could borrow? I'd be happy to pay for an oil change, tire rotation, etc.
Thanks gang!
P.S. I looked up towing a trailer with my car and between the hitch and wiring kit I'd be looking at $150, making it not worthwhile.

why dont you meet at VIR & do a track day there![]()

VIR is better than a track day. i'm just saying dude, it's a waste of a trip if you dont get to ride it when you get it.

What is your time frame for this?
You can use my truck anytime..however Q probably gets better gas mileage than I do on a bad day UPhill...

i'd offer mine but a 2500hd with an 8.1 liter v8 is not what your looking for. 12 mpg if, IF you can keep your foot out of it.![]()
diesel car + tiny trailer should get you there and back on $150 total...

No...
I have big huge American truck that conforms to all American stereotypes...

Just use the big truck. My little ranger only gets 17-18mpg.
You Sir know nothing of true greatness. I of course refer to ones ability to steal, drink and generally do nothing, and carry it off with style
take a bus, ride it back. otherwise this is going to be somewhat expensive
I'm curious on the time frame too. I don't know you well enough to let you BORROW it, but I may be able to swing a road trip depending on dates. My Silverado's getting about 22-23MPG at 65 average MPH...
Did you grit your teeth and try to look like Clint Fuckin' Eastwood?
Or did you lisp it all hangfisted like a fuckin' flower?
If you decide to do the hitch/wiring install, at least you have something to show for your 150$. You're still welcome to borrow my trailer for the trip.... Keep in mind that you will lose some gas mileage, I've been seeing a ~5 mi/gal loss, so the costs might work better with a truck anyhow.
Or rent a van from Enterprise. Unlimited mileage![]()

It's an '08 4-door Silvo 1500 with the aluminum block 5.3 liter 325CID AFM & heavy-duty towing package, 3:73 gears I believe. If I can set cruise control literally a tick under 65 for extended periods, I'll hit 22MPG. But I'm also running the 20" Eagle LS-2's, which supposedly do a little better than light truck-specific tires and/or AT's...
I take NH route 28 on my commute, which is a fair amount of stop & go Hooksett south and I still get about 20MPG each & every week (about 400 miles on roughly 20 gallons)...

if you're trying to do this cheap why are you going out of your way to go through VA?

It seems like Q's truck is the current best offer in terms of flexibility.
I really, really, really appreciate all of the other offers! You guys are awesome.
when are you heading down? i have a 2006 honda ridgeline that i might be able to swing

Sometime in the next three weeks. Likely not this week or next. The week after Halloween is looking like the go-week. I'm hoping to take a Thursday/Friday off work (or maybe just Friday) and leave my area around 4-5am. That puts me in Lexington around 3-4pm, if all goes well.
That night I'll be driving to Hanover PA to stay with a friend, then driving back home to Wenham the following day.
FWIW I get BETTER milage while towing than not towing as long as it's not a lot of weight - 2001 Wrangler, 4.5x8' utility trailer with 2' high sides and an open top. You're welcome to borrow the trailer, the Jeep won't get the kind of milage you want even while towing.

I get around 25mpg towing my small trailer with the bike on
