    Pilot Powers

On my last two sets of Pilot Power rears, I have noticed that they developed a noticeable line about 2 inches to the left of center, all the way around the circumference of the tire. I have asked many people if they knew what it was, no one had a clue. I called Michelin today and after awhile of setting on hold and getting transferred, I finally found someone that had an answer. According to Michelin, this is a new feature built into the Pilot Power, “a static dissipating strip”. Feature is only built into a few models of tires they sell. Appears it is for helping to get rid of built up static as a safety precaution when pulling up to a gas pump. Who would have known?

Maybe i'm wrong, but I think that's a load of bollox. Are these 2ct's? If so, it's the line between the compounds.

There is a patent on static strips in tires, but I don't think anyone is using them. Superdave, bring us the answer we need!!!

The person I talked with at Michelin said that the Pilot Powers and Roads were the two that had the static line, the 2CT's did not. I have not had a problem with the tire, but I have noticed the line and wanted to make sure that it was not a defect. Mine look like the picture supplied by Keeena.

    Re: Pilot Powers

Roads and Powers have that strip. It is the real deal, designed at that time to help dissipate static.

People have thought it was a defect, but it is not.

It is not in the 2CT tires, such as the Power 2CT, Road 2CT, Power One 2CT or the Pure 2CT.

Wow. Cool! I thought michelin would have championed it a bit more.

Technology marched on. Both tires are over five years old in design. Michelin felt the newer tires did not need that type of strip.

I got 2CT's. I could have sworn I've seen the line in the tire. I'll check tonight just out of curosity.

I was wondering what that mark was on my rear tire. For a while I thought I had just run over or rubbed against something.

The pencil thin line right up the middle?
