If you are not taking the ferry, Heartland, New Brunswick has the world's longest covered bridge:

Taking the ferry one way is a great compromise and a nice way to relax, even if it doesn't save a lot of time.

Hopewell Rocks in NB is also a fascinating stop, especially if you time the tide right (more pics at the bottom of this page)

I went a few years back on my GoldWing.

We rode there (entering at the top), rode counterclockwise around the outside, and then took the ferry back.

Getting there and back, I'm glad I had the GoldWing. Once actually on Nova Scotia, I would have preferred my KLR650. We did a lot of small roads that were in less than perfect condition, but nice and windy. Perfect for a bike like the KLR!

Regardless, it was a great trip. A couple of the overnight stops were a bit boring, but after a long day of riding I wasn't always looking for nightlife. That said, we had a lot of fun in Halifax and if I did it again, I would have spent a few days there (instead of one).

That's a good point. Some of the smaller local roads are a bit rough. And even the main roads do have some smaller stone on them. Seems that is what they line the roads with in some areas. Cars/trucks getting their tires into the shoulders will tend to drag that stuff back out with them, so be aware of that

Some of the roads near that covered bride can only be described as "Carpet Bombed".

    hahaha!!!

    or, one in each saddlebag?????

I actually think the roads are pretty good! Been on a Blackbird, an ST2 and a Multistrada...never found the roads iffy.

We hit some pretty small roads near heartland (the bridge) those were the worst. But I agree, these were out of the ordinary.

In and around Advocate harbor is where we found some nice roads(209 maybe?), but these were the ones all lined with small rocks which were kicked up from cars and trucks into the roads.Nothing monumental, but something to be aware of if you get out that way.

I did a Nova Scotia trim in 2005 and is somewhat chronicled with pictures here

I planned to go to Labrador but the rain pushed me back down the coast of NewFoundland.

Be glad to share with you some of my experiences.

This looks like it would be a dream vacation for a rider. Maybe we can setup a group trip like this for summer.
