    PLEASE HELP: Pillion Jammed

Ok, forget the jokes ("Jammed your pillion? You should see a doctor.").
    Short of it is:
    Got new gloves yesterday.
Went to Springfield, MA bike night for first time last night.
Put my new gloves under the pillion seat because I didn't want to carry them around all night and risk forgetting them somewhere.
Now I can't open my pillion seat to get at my gloves, registration, tool kit, etc.
Basically, it seems that the gloves are blocking the little thing that needs to turn to unhook the seat. It's to the point where my key is starting to bend trying to open it.
Does anyone know any way I can get that thing open?
    PLEASE???
    Thanks.

    BTW, it's a 2005 Yamaha R1, if that helps.

Thanks. I was trying that earlier this morning, but it wasn't working. I'll give it another try at lunch though.
I just don't want to have to destroy the seat to get at it from the inside or anything.

When pressing down on the seat to ease up on the tension place a tennis ball in your hand. This will keep a "softer" footprint on the rear seat and help prevent damage to the seat's inner structure. Move it around and with some lick you may be able to work the key and get to your gear.
