Sorry to hear about this tragedy
Looks like the Harley is going to be the center of the investigation too. Faulty equipment or something?

I read about the accident last night, very tragic and a terrible way to go.
Did they say what the road conditions were in the tunnel? There is water in there from time to time and who knows what other kind of vehicle drippings.
The marked 34 mph curve can be vy hairy at 50 mph with some fluids on the pavement, along with a heavy bike like that.
I would imagine a faulty motorcycle would be a low probability event.

1st: RIP. A tragic thing
2nd: Maybe this will help convince LEO's to eventually upgrade to better motorcycles and gear. Look at England's motorcycle cops.. riding BMW's and fullgear (including flipup fullface helmets)
3rd: I've seen the 'State Troopers Training' that motorcycle cops get. Basically it's a bunch of guys riding around a parking lot and dumping the bike. Imagine taking MSF on a fulldressed Police Harley and then getting a pat on the back 'here go chase criminals have fun'... you do the math.

I have a hard time thinking that in a crisis situation that an officer would be safer on an H-D versus a bike like this ST.
Motoport Kevlar would be all-seasons AND high-protection, and a flip up helmet would help out as well.
Its about safety first, and saving taxpayer dollars second. If you put the cops on safer bikes and in safer gear, it should translate into less incidents, less workmans comp, etc.

Did anyone else see the huge groups of bike cops on 128N around 8am earlier this week - I assume they were all headed to the funeral
Phoenix gets KZ1000s and a few HDs and BMWs but those guys can ride! i am sure its because they do it 350+ days a year but ive been pulled over by one that when he left me he did a u turn at like 5mph dragging the floorboards........crazy!Originally posted by a13x

we did a motorcycle games thing where one of the events was a slow race. last one wins. not only did the cop on a full police KZ win, he actually came TO A STOP a couple of times and held it for like 15-20 secs then crawled a little more then stopped again. it was down to him and a female cop, then he distracted her by turning on the sirens and it was over from there.
When I start my KTM in the morning, rules are broken. Its inevitable...

Take this rumor for what you paid to read it...
My dad told me that my grandmother spoke with a relative of the trooper that was killed. He mentioned something to the effect that the bike was known to be mechanically at fault and that the bike was being ridden in for repair. He said that is why there is no public closure to the incident, because that would be a policy violation. How he gets this out of my 84 year old grandmother is beyond me.
I don't think that such a story would ever be validated, but it would be interesting to find out if the bike was in fact mechanically at fault and if so, was it known to be so.

The funeral was Wed... And the bike was mechanically faulty...That is from a troopers mouth.....Also something about the road as well...Anyway you look at it, it was a needless trajic loss...

News reports said the bike was being ferried to a repair shop and the escorting cruiser was his ride back to the airport barricks.
With all the cameras in the tunnel and the bike so easily inspectable I wonder why a week later we still haven't heard the cause.............
They showed the bike on the back of a tow truck in a sling, and it looked fine (if it was the same bike)
Sorry for the guy and his family.

Suf Daddy.
My dad said the same thing about the ride back but I omitted it because I couldn't picture 2 cops riding 2-up, and I didn't even think the bike had the capacity to do so (single seat?)
Edit/thinking out loud:
Suf - you said cruiser...I thought he was riding with another MC cop, but I guess that was not the case...? Was in a cruiser?
