Powder coat prep and bearing removal.

For those of you that have had their frame powder coated, what do you need to do, bearings, bearing races? and what color, satin black, gloss, or some otehr color, bike is red silver black, possibly red and black after.

And Merry Christmas Eve/Christmas to everyone!

I remove the bearings and give everything a good wipe down. Miles Hubert from Motofab (his race number is slipping my mind right now) does the rest. Excellent work. Fast turnaround. Great prices.

yes, best to remove all bearings and such and plug the holes if you can. I think most powdercoat shops will have stuff to properly plug the holes for you though as well as I'm sure you will be having them prep the surface anyway.

Prism Powder Coating in Wareham,MA took care of me. I had a swingarm powder coated and he was able to match it 100% to the factory frame. It was a custom color not just a matte, gloss, satin. I think it was a "textile black" even if you dont have him do it he could tell you the color.

So far most of the advice is correct ill fill in the blanks and varify how I like to get frames brought to me.

Yes, all bearings to be removed. I think on a frame the only bearings are in the neck. The races can stay in.

Threaded holes i have plugs for those no reason for you to go out of your way and do it.

    All plastic must be removed.

If the frame has heavy oil or grease I ask that you do your best to remove what you can. You would be surprised what some people bring me. I swear some of it is straight from the scrap yard.

Thats about it I take care of the rest. Prep masking and so on. Any other questions just ask.

When I got my frame and stuff back I had to run taps through the bolt holes and do a little scraping with a sharp knife where I installed new races. The frame got the gloss black along with the hubs and the exhaust got a dull gray treatment.

Sorry guys I wont be doing exhaust pipes anymore. Turns out they have been failing. I just found out that a lot of pipes i did for a shop over the summer have failed. I had a very angry customer that I almost lost because of it even tho he knew the odds going in. That brings up another point that if anyone at any time has a problem with the work I do please notify me and I will work with you to make it correct. The pipes just get to hot and the powder ends up burning off. Ceramic is the only way to go for exhaust and I am not setup to do ceramic and dont see it in the near future.

Prism sucks. The owner is a real a**hole.

He did some stuff for me years ago and screwed it up and then purposely screwed me on one part he had to redo because he could not follow directions.

He told me that he does $100k custom Harleys for Perewitz and I was lucky he touched my POS Jap bike parts.
