    SV650 Naked Headlight Options

I'm going bananas trying to find a headlight for my 05 SV650. GSXR front end with none of the stock mounting brackets so I'll be doing fork brackets or just making a custom bracket up.

I really dig the look of this crappy Pazoma eBay special, plus it's like $30 with integrated signals:

But.. it's probably a POS and isn't DOT certified.

There seem to be some decent 7" round lights with 50mm fork brackets that would work, but not really a huge fan of the style and the good ones like JW Speakers are craaazy money.

Any ideas for a setup like that Pazoma with good lights? Almost thought about doing a stock GSXR upper fairing/headlight and getting the fairing bracket to mount on the SV. I'm really not a fan of the SV650S nose.

Totally open to ideas, just can't seem to find anything that I like.

for 30 bucks it seems like its well worth the chance it'll be good. If you like the looks once mounted and the output isn't great you could always try with an led bulb or doing an hid retro fit. Space looks tight it looks like the top light opening is a possibility.

Those look like wimpy 30W bulbs. Housing won't be able to handle the heat from real bulbs.

A lot of people go with their choice of GSX-R headlights with the extra tabs cut off and make some brackets to attach to fork mounts. They aren't too expensive on the bay, either.

I had an aftermarket headlight with 2 bulbs on mine for a while, the ebay dominator style. I burned out "the green connector", presumably related to the extra draw? Might want to look up the green connector on svrider and try to prevent that from happening.

Most of those cheapo aftermarket ones do suck for output. If you do go with one of those, at least make sure It uses a standard bulb (H4, H7, etc) for the headlight, and you at least stand a chance of a decent output. A bunch use shitty non-standard low-wattage bulbs for the main beam, like turn signal bulbs as a headlight. I'll see if I can dig though my eBay history to find the one I put on my F4 to sell it, it looked decent and wasn't too too shitty.

    Re: SV650 Naked Headlight Options

And that's the problem, if they can handle the heat they wouldn't be cheap... but I guess LED might be possible.

The Pazoma guys are away for two weeks for Chinese new year but I shot them a message. For $30 I'll probably grab one just to experiment with anyway.

I'm starting to lean toward the GSXR headlight strongly. I feel like it runs a good chance of being super ugly but this might motivate me to customize something, or get the entire upper fairing and chop stuff off. Hmmm...

Ok yeah, the one you're looking at has 18W high and low beams - definitely not a standard headlight style bulb.

Sweet. Thanks! I have that one on my "maybe" list. It has the H4 bulb which is good. Actually not bad looking just basic.

Not related, but you sure find some weird stuff when you're looking at custom SVs:

Still banging my head. 2005 GSXR headlight is close but so bulky.

Thinking about a GS500F headlight.. nice and compact, maybe could fab up something. Not super expensive either.

That Ducati streetfighter setup looks gorgeous to me... also really expensive and almost no used setups on eBay:

May not apply to you, but I ride a lot at dusk and at night. I wouldn't cheap out on a headlight. I know it sucks, but I think it's better sometimes to pay for quality once than to cheap out several times before realizing you should've paid for quality the first time.

    Re: SV650 Naked Headlight Options

If you ride at night at all, looks should be the least of your concerns. Eventually, I will rebuild my SV. I am going from the stock 7" round to a 9" round from one of my XV920Rs

    100%

I have a cheap Acerbis DHH light on my dual sport and it’s just enough to get me off the trail at night and a few miles home. Otherwise terrible.

Leaning toward the GS500F light now - nice and bright and compact, good candidate for a little custom mounting I hope

2007 GS500F headlight ordered! Perfect condition, reasonable price, lots of light. Should be an interesting look...

    Re: SV650 Naked Headlight Options

I did a 2004-5 GSXR 600/750 headlight on my naked TL. The biggest problem with that headlight is that it's very deep, so I had to hack it all apart in order to shorten it's depth. It turned out pretty decent, but if I were to do it again I'd simply get a 7" round headlight and a bucket. Much easier.

    Here's what mine looked like:

That came out looking nice! Pretty fat headlight though, partly why I went with the GS500F light.

Not that it helps you any more, but I'd personally try to make a Hyosung headlight work.
