    My Latest Project - Completed!

I haven't posted here in quite some time - I guess I've been busy. My latest project wrapped up in April and I've really been enjoying it.

Here's what it looked like when I first brought it home, a 1983 CB1100F Super Sport:

    My Latest Project - Completed!-20161220_192111-jpg

And after a year of mostly sitting, followed by a year of work, here it is:

    My Latest Project - Completed!-img_0545-jpgMy Latest Project - Completed!-img_0561-jpgMy Latest Project - Completed!-kirk8-jpg

Updates and mods include a rebuilt motor bored out to 1123 cc's with a Wiseco big bore kit. New intake and exhaust valves, chains, primary dampeners, etc. 2012 CBR600RR swingarm, 1992 VFR750F front end, 1992 CBR600F2 wheels, superbike bars, custom wiring harness, Ignitech ignition, Chris Lee custom stainless steel 4-into-1 exhaust, 2014 CB1100 controls, and much more.

Except for the painted bodywork and some polished bits and pieces, I powder coated everything else myself, including the engine, frame, and wheels. Lots of time and effort, but well worth it, I think.

It runs and rides like a dream.

That's really cool. Great job with all the work! And thank you for ditching the square headlight.

I'll post a picture tonight, showing the mono-shock if anyone is interested. The top part of the shock bolts into the swingarm shock tower and the lower linkage bolts up to brackets welded down below where the center stand used to be. It's braced up nice and solid.

This is the way to go for a nice clean street fighter look, not to mention how much better the bike handles.

Oh, I'm not knocking the build, just laughing as my brain says 'Hold up, I know that bike... something's missing... pay no attention to the swingarm shape...'

Got any spare parts from the build you want gone?

I'm in the perpetually enduring process of restoring my '82 750F SS.

Really good job with that! Looks great! Certainly seems to be worth the effort you put into it.

Now you just have to remember, "Which bike part I need for that front end, swingarm, etc..?" Hope you got it all written down, haha!

Hey Tom - how are you doing these days?

Yes indeed, the VFR is next. The bodywork all went to a good friend in TX who has been in the bodywork/paint business his entire adult life. I gave him a bunch of CB1100F parts he needed, along with a bunch of powder coating. In exchange he's restoring all of the bodywork for me. So far he's plastic welded all the cracks, replaced broken tabs, and primed everything. Most of the white bodywork is done with decals in place awaiting the final clearcoat. He's working on the upper main fairing now and the tank is next. Meanwhile, I've purchased all of the rebuild parts needed for the brakes and forks. I'm debating whether or not to stick with the original wheels or do the CBR wheel upgrade which includes going to a 17" front wheel. Beefier forks as also a possibility, but I haven't decided yet. And those dreadful carbs are badly gunked up, so they'll be completely overhauled.

I'm taking a little break since I finished the red bike, but will dig back in within a month or so. Give me a year and it will look and run like new again.

I forgot to mention that I finished this bike last fall before I really dug into the 1123 Resto-Mod.

    Thanks!

I listen to a lot of great music while I prep and powder coat, as well as during mock-up and assembly. I do find time for some TV too. This wasn't a rush job, although it went together pretty fast once I had everything ready. After you build a couple of these, they aren't that difficult. My son and I installed the motor in the roller on a Tuesday evening after dinner - it took about 30 minutes. By the following Sunday, I had it all done.
