I've always been really impressed by the on-bike footage in that movie, simply because it had to be done with big old-fashioned film cameras. The techniques used in early road racing are also really interesting -- riders use their toes to judge lean angle instead of their knees.

    well, there went my night

    awesome, awesome, movie

watching this makes me want to:
    -become a racer
-get a friend, pack a van with the bikes, and drive 70,000 miles a year racing road and dirt track circuits around the country
-shake off a crash and keep racing
    -wear vintage leathers
    -get a vintage bike
-say that modern racing is for pussies...dirt track racing, sliding sideways on a squirrely, steel-frame 70's bike at 120mph is where it's at!
-race vintage motocross...even in the 70's those guys were flying!
-move to California and ride through the desert, then hit the dunes with my best buddies, just having a blast

and it just brings a grin to my face to see the guys that are "natural" riders make such old bikes go fast

My VHS copies are so old, I doubt they even work anymore. Not that I have a VCR to watch them on.

It has been released on DVD. I haven't heard of it actually, but I got it in the mail today as a present from my sister. I look forward to watching it.

Ok, just sat down and watched this bitch and after the opening scene I almost shut it off but I was doing something else and continued watching. Once the movie started I was hooked though. This movie is the epitome of motorcycle riding.

I am SOO GLAD I watched the whole thing, it was fantastic! Those guys were freaking nuts, I never understood the whole Steve McQueen thing till now. And I agree mikeb

Re: "On Any Sunday" on HULU!

Some of you folks ought to watch it again, and keep your eyes open. A good part of the road racing footage was shot at "Bryar Motorsports Park". I was a late comer to seeing it the first time, sometime in the mid 80s. I was watching the track footage, and deja vu was setting in big time. Man, those corners looked awful damn familiar. Sure as hell, after the rewind, I could make out the old Bryar tower on the front straight, the bleachers, T2, etc.
I had been going there for the nationals, faithfully since 76, and raced there in 83 with AAMRR, so it was a real treat to see the track on film.
Some of you youngsters have to realize that the hearts of racers hasn't changed. Yes, the machines evolve, but those guys were doing the same thing today's racers do, ride as hard as their competitive fire/skills/machine's abilities will allow. I believe that the top racer of any generation, if he were in his prime today, would be in the same thick of things today, on today's machines. That fire, or passion, would drive them today, as it did then, to find the fastest way around the track. That is one reason why "On Any Sunday" has aged so well. Finally, after all these years, I added "On Any Sunday II" to my Netflix que. Shame on me for waiting so long to see it.

great flick that never gets old!

FYI, you can rent or stream On Any Sunday from NetFlix along with the second film done in '01 titled "On Any Sunday: Motocross, Malcolm and More"

EDIT: oops, Tabby already mentioned those two are available. three more great flicks to jot down are 'A Day in the Dirt', 'Dust to Glory' and '2 Laps 2 Go'. real good winter vids to keep you pumped for spring!
