QStarz compatible with Google Chome OS?

Got a QStarz GPS lap timer and looking to get the cheapest laptop that will work. Found the little netbooks at Best Buy for $200. Operating system runs on Google Chrome. Will it work or will QStarz require Windows 7.

you could do what I did and buy a used laptop from someone on here. I'm into it for I think $40. $20 for the laptop then $20 for a charger and wireless card. its an older laptop so it didn't have built in wireless but works for the software so I'm happy with it.

Chromebooks aren't laptops, you don't install software onto them. If it doesn't run in a browser off the cloud, the chromebook won't do it.

Correction. There are chromebook apps, but I don't think Qstarz has one...

Yeah, but they run in the browser.

Which one? The Q6000 or the smaller one without a real time display?

I'm working on a cloud based app to decode the binary file from the Q6000. As long as your laptop can recognize the lap timer as an external drive when plugged in, allowing you to upload the binary files via a browser, you should be set. My Linux laptop does recognize the Q6000 so a chromebook should as well, since it is based on Linux.

OK, that one needs software running on the computer to transfer the data. It doesn't appear as an external drive when plugged in, instead it shows up as a serial interface and software is needed to download the data over that serial interface. I have a python script that can do that, but it looks like you would need to get the chomebook into developer mode to install python. An alternative is to install another flavor of Linux on the chromebook, such as Ubuntu, which includes python be default.

Otherwise, any laptop that can support python should work (Windows, Mac, Linux) to get to the data.

The only way to know for sure is to get to a console on a chromebook, and plug the device in to see what happens.
