as for me: 75-105 on average

I'd say around the same 75-105. Depends on the traffic.
i ride at the speed limit unless the road conditions warrant a speed that is less than the posted limit because i am a good person... anyone who doesn't do the same should die and burn in hell...
PFFT, YA RIGHTbout 80 for me... i figure 80 indicated is 75 by radar. i've never had a problem going by a cop at that speed on a MA highway before as long as i was in a 65

I might go faster if I am in a rush, but generally, I am too afraid of a ticket and prolonged high insurance rates to speed excessively when I don't need to.Originally posted by Jankster

Once I get on backroads however...![]()
backroads often get me more paranoid about that than highways, as kops can hang out in various inlets that you can't see coming. i'm still paying off insurance hike from speeding tickets in my car from like 5 years ago. ugh.Originally posted by Mad Max

Just average highway cruisin? About 80 - 90ish... Depending on traffic, conditions etc. Backroads is another story, but even then I ride it conservative, I am after all a step 31 as a result of many things on my driving record from many years ago.
But when we ride very fast motorcycles, we ride with immaculate sanity. We might abuse a substance here and there, but only when it's right. The final measure of any rider's skill is the inverse ratio of his preferred Traveling Speed to the number of bad scars on his body. It is that simple: If you ride fast and crash, you are a bad rider. If you go slow and crash, you are a bad rider. And if you are a bad rider, you should not ride motorcycles.
Lets see for safety always go 5 to 10 mph faster than the flow of traffic so you can control the situation applies to multi lane.
90% of LEO activity is on the superslabs but in traffic you can slow quickly enough not to be noticed amongst the cagers.
Smallish 2 lanes 70 to 90 with traffic thru towns.
Upper VT 90 to 167

Good radar / laser will save about 1/2 the stationary leo traps
And of course speed limit within 2 miles of any donut shop![]()

I'm always at 90 to 110 rarely below 90 on the slab.
85-110 I'd say, sometimes a little more depending on where I am and the worry of patrols.
It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?
Cruising... with no traffic on the slab... I'd like to say 75, but who knows for sure.
I rarely look down at the speedo.

Yeah, in order to lower it faster than 1 pt a year (which only happens when you have a year with no incidents) you have to go three years with no incidents (makes you an automatic step 15). One ticket in a given year, you don't lose a point, and you go up 2 - 5 pts depending on the severity.
Now, if MA weren't the only state in the Union to consider 7 years of driving record for assessing step (and used the 3 - 5 years every other state does) I would have long since been at a normal step level.
Now if you are like me, and average 1 ticket you can't beat every 2 years, your step will never go down, it will just stagnate. How about YOU try to go 3 years without ever speeding![]()
I can't wait to move to OH next year, where my annual insurance will go from $8 - 9K a year to $600 a year because they only consider 3 years of driving record (during which time I have only 1 ticket, knock on wood)

I know, I know
But given that the RMV is its own little fiefdom with no checks and balances, little I can do... Then again, I'll be sure to let you know when I launch my class action suit against the RMV![]()

Moving out to Cinci sometime around August next year. Going to go to law school at University of Cincinnati, plus my wife's family is from Cinci (on top of the fact that I can buy a house out there on savings outright, no paying half a mil for a raised ranch on 1/10 acre)

Yea... I know. I could sell and move back and buy a friggin mansion on a golf course for CASH.
Plus... I had my bike, my truck, my Jeep, my wife's car, and a sea doo and my insurance was less for all of them put together than my truck alone up here.
Plus no annual inspection and no yearly excise tax on vehicles.

That is more than I paid in MA taxes on EVERYTHING last year. Income, excise, sales, etc.. (I don't own a house - I know that would easily kick it up a lot)
Even add in my insurance, etc.. and I am still way less than $9k a year.
Did you get caught running from the police, or do you own a Ferrari or something that is kicking that premium up so much?
I'm with Mystery Squid... if I got a $9k quote on vehicle insurance I'd sell the freakin car and either move, ride a 50cc scooter, or bicycle/walk/train everywhere.
I have no comment on this topic....

b) I got an OUI for .1 BAC 4 and half years ago (that was a total of 9 points with associated tickets (lane violation, improper driving gear (a headlight was out)) which I beat in court, but since the RMV is its own special entity with no recourse to the law, they gave me the points anyhow.
c) I get a speeding ticket every other year that I can't beat, which keeps my SDIP stagnant. The only way your SDIP EVER goes down and keeps trending down is if you can go 3+ years without any tickets/minor offenses.
d) I got an evading/reckless ticket 6 years ago because I had tint on the rearwindow that was bubbling up, had the music cranking, and had a cop follow me with lights for 3 miles along the mass pike before I noticed he was following me with lights (couldn't see him behind me and it was a bit before i checked my side mirrors). Which in his eyes was evading arrest/reckless endangerment (for 90 mph in a 65)
In short, the system is DESIGNED to keep the points on there forever unless you go 3+ years with NO offenses, no matter how minor.
edit: It's still less than i pay in MA taxes each year, and I don't own a house either. My MA tax bill was > $10K including excise/state tax.
