Question about race school and insurance coverage

Im thinking about doing the penguin race school next summer but I was wondering what the deal is with crashing and insurance coverage. I have heard that since it is a "learning experience" they cant surcharge you if you crash all you do is pay the deductable.

One of my friends who works in an insurance company says that there is no way that they will cover it at all no matter if it is a learning experience or not. Anyone here know for sure what the answer is?

Question about race school and insurance coverage

I believe, although not 100% certain, that if the event is not timed (Penguin school is not timed) you have a decent shot with the insurance company.

    Yeah, what he said!

I wonder, does anybody know if insurance would cover you at a track day, as they are a school?

Question about race school and insurance coverage

It wasn't about not being able to pay for the damages if the bike was dropped on the track, it was just a question about is it true that an insurance company will cover the damage for a learning experience.

Track days (at least the one's I've attended) are not timed.

Question about race school and insurance coverage

Along the same lines, if I have never been on the track, but am interested in learning more to improve my street riding would a penguin track day be a good start? Any other suggestions?

Question about race school and insurance coverage

Your insurance most likely won't cover you for the Penguin school, due to the fact that it's a RACING school. Some insurance companies MAY cover it if it's a 'track day', I've heard of that...

If you need to use you insurance, call me. I've done several insurance repairs for track day and school crashes.

Question about race school and insurance coverage

    Manny,
Do a few track days if you want to experience the track. Penguin School is for new racers, primarily.

    What he said.

I recently did my first track day at a Tony's Track Day, and it was excellent - I rode as fast and hard as I dared, learned a lot, and never had to worry about someone trying pass me in the middle of a corner, etc.

Plus, the bike prep is a lot less extensive for a track day.

And, too, if you go check out Tony's days before Penguin, at least you have some opportunity to be mellow and learn the track without the mental pressures of "racing" . Tony has said that in the past, many insurance companies have covered crashes at his dates becuase of the no timing thing and also becuase it is purely educational. And it's way fun to boot.

Question about race school and insurance coverage

Checking out Tonys track days - sounds like a good option. The program i was thinking about at Penguin was the Street riders Track day - which they say on the website is designed for street riders. Im not ready for racing thats for sure, just looking for a place to open it up and learn some good skills. Do they have any instruction at Tonys track Days?

Question about race school and insurance coverage

Even though Penquin says their street track days are for street riders, it will have a racers edge to it. I'm one of Tony's instructors and we offer instruction to those who ask. Our track days are designed exclusively for street riders. Go to the web site for all you answers.
