Question about registering a 1983 CB750, please help

    Hi everyone,

I'm about to take a look at a second bike for my garage. It's a 1983 CB750. I'm looking to get an older model CB to turn into a cafe racer. Anyways, the guy says he doesnt have a title. Problem is, he never had it registered either. He says he got it from a friend who got it from a friend. I'm going to stop by, get the VIN and make sure everything is clean on the VIN. Outside of that, how do I register a bike with just a bill of sale?

Does anyone know the rules for registering an old school bike like this? Does the age make it easier to title?

Do I really need an older registration or the previous owners title?

    Thanks in advance.

    Ed

You will need an old registration to get it registered. At this point it might be easier to sell it to a friend and register it in NH to get a good reg and then sell it back to yourself and reg in Ma

Depends on the state. Here in Vermont, for instance, vehicles over 15 years old don't get issued titles, and can be registered with a simple handwritten bill of sale. Since you're in Massachusetts, I'm sure it'll be more complicated (everything seems to be more complicated in Mass), but if worse comes to worst, you could always just register the bike in Vermont since you don't need to be a resident to register a vehicle here.

so if i were to register in VT, do i just keep VT tag/registration on it for its life? Would it be a hassle to re-register it in MA after I get the VT registration?

Also, I'm looking at a 68' CB as well. I don't know if that much age difference makes it easier to register here in MA? I just spoke to the 68' CB guy and he has no paperwork at all...

Once you have a current reg, VT or whatever, you can walk in and transfer it to MA and pay the fees and walk out with plates.

The VT forms are even available online, and can be mailed in... You can renew the registration online too...
