    Question about stands

So im in desperate need of a rear stand. My question is this. The rear stands that pull forward or back? Which one do you prefer and why? I know pit bull makes both, and Im definately getting one for the spools.

rear stand that pulls back - the forward ones suck to me because i could never see the spool on the far side! (or you bang it against the belly pan as i slid it under)

    Re: Question about stands

See I didnt think of that, I figure it would be easier to balance. The whole putting on the stand makes me nervous, worried about it tipping over and I thought the pull forward kind would be easier to balance

    Re: Question about stands

    I have both.

I like the standard rear handle version a little better.

The nice thing about the forward handle one is that it takes up less room.

Both are pretty easy to use though.

Should I not be as worried about the tipping over while lifting it part?

No its not an issue. You hold it up while positioning the stand under the spools, then once you put some pressure on it, the stand hold the bike balanced. I don't know if I explained that effectively??? Does that make sense?

Long story short anyway, its not an issue, youll see after you do it once.

It depends on how you do it. If you have a kick stand, you can put it on that first, the get behind the bike and line it up etc etc. That way you would lean it upright and you get it on the stand. On my race bike, there is no kick stand, so I just stand on the side of the bike and have one hand on the seat holding it up, and one on the stand lining it up and lifting the bike.

I really dont think I am writing very clearly tonight...long day! Just play with it when you get the stand, its pretty much common sense once you start to do it. Its harder to explain than anything else...at least for me right now lol

    Re: Question about stands

If you're really worried about wheel balance, buy a wheel chock. You push the bike into the chock to hold it upright, slip the stand in and boom, done. No tip overs to worry about.

ah....it's just a matter of experience....have someone there with you to help the first couple times...it becomes second nature pretty quickly. (though, it is not unheard of to occaisionally hear an "Oooohhh shhhiitttt" in the pits when an experienced racer comes in and almost loses it while trying to put his bike up by himself!!! Usually he recovers and only has to live down everyone else laughing bout it...!)

    Re: Question about stands

I have the forward handle, and it's great when the bike is away for teh winter. I can just tuck it up to a wall and nothing hangs out to trip on. It it a bit tougher to look around the bike to see the bobbins and make sure you are not scraping the swingarm. But you get used to how to do it.

But, with that said, I'd buy the rear handle next time.
