Quick decision - Track bike is dead -ZX14 or 1993 Duc

My awful luck struck again. I spent all week getting the track bike ready. When I go to load it on the trailer tonight it wont start and further inspection shows my oil is mostly gas. I still want to ride on Monday. Early work tomorrow mean I will be trailer my bike there and then up to NH tomorrow night to spend the night so I have to figure out what I'm bring tonight.

So I'm left with two options.

#1: My personal preference. Take my ZX14 up and see if I can make it behave. I know it's an awful bike for this track but it's in great running condition with good tires, new brakes, clutch ect.

#2: My 1992 Ducati 900SS. It would be a much better fit for this track. But it's a 92 so it may not want to behave. The carb tune at the moment isn't perfect. The tires are closer to touring than sport. And it has very rare black body work. I know I could remove the fairing but the tank could still get trashed if I go down.

I don't know what to load.

drop the oil, pull the carbs, and see which float is stuck...you basically just cleaned out the inside of your motor real well.

if that's not an option, i'm voting duc. just pull the bodywork and ride her nekkid.

It will be tough to get oil and a filter now. Even if it is only a stuck float I don't know if it will happen again.

the duc sounds sexier, but I'd vote reliability as well...go green baby!

I have ridden an early 90's 900 ss at the track. It was a lot of fun.

SS. Touring tires are fine unless you are a super strong intermediate grouper. 900SS is perfect for NHMS. Pull the plastic and have fun. The tank is repairable if you bin it.

If you were only riding for one day, I can bump you to Tuesday if that helps?

Email me if it comes to that... good luck!

Thanks for the offer. But everything is all lined up for tommorow. I decided on the ZX14. I know it's not great bike but I'm thinking it will still be a great day.

Re: Quick decision - Track bike is dead -ZX14 or 1993 Duc

No, there is no such thing as too much power. That being said the reason I crashed I suspect is me being overconfident and under skilled.

I have to have a sense of humor about it. Every time I've been to the track I crash. In reality I felt like I was being very conservative. I kept telling myself to take it easy and not to crash out, especially early in the day. And, I honestly though I was taking it easy until I watched the video. I guess I get in the zone and can't help but push. I should have the video you tubed around 8.

Wow... Sorry you crashed. But is that 3 for 3? I'm not bashing because you seem to know what you did wrong.

Now that you know what it feels like to be in your "zone" (x3?), it's time to learn how to take a step back and not go there until some other riding habits are corrected else you risk setting yourself up for disaster.
You pull yourself out of it the instant you feel you are in it and that alone will take practice.

Yes 3for 3. I would have been more upset if it was the Duc. But, really I was most upset that I couldn't finish the day because I was riding like an ass than I really am about the bike. Maybe next year I will start out with some instruction. Something has to change.
