    R1 vs Porsche-carrera

The car has four big tires, four big brakes and is much easier to slide through a turn.

Look at how much deeper the Porsche could brake.

No that's not really for real, the clue is it's Jeremy Clarkson..

That guy got beat up for his lunch money every day of his childhood by bikers. Every MC/Car thing he does is always going to have the car come out ahead. He openly rips on motorcycle riders in some of his other comparos. (e.x. 999 vs. Lambo Gallardo, which I believe actually had the 999 winning)

In the case of most of his comparos I just don't think they are having the rider on the motorcycle ride full out. We've seen other comparos where the bikes crush the cars when they have a known good rider in both the car & bike.

Go look at the Kevin Schwantz Gixxer vs. Corvette Z06 article from a couple of years ago. (The Z06 is much faster then that particular 911 in the video.) Or look at the Z06 vs. ZX-6R article in Speed magazine this year, or the ZX-10R vs. Race prepped 600hp Nissan Skyline comparo in the same magazine.

In all of those the bikes were stomping the cars hard, like they'd be lapping them every 10 laps or so.

These car TV guys always state that myth about "4 big tires". All the big tires do is make it less scary to slide. That 911 has 4 tires but it's probably putting close to 900lbs load on each tire... whereas the bike is putting maybe 300lbs on each tire.

The last turn and sprint for the finish is suspect in my book. Granted the sprint was short, but the R1 didn't appear to even close the gap and there is no doubt that the R1 accelerates harder throughout its speed range than the 911.

Also in the corner after the bike passed the car, the guy took a horrible line to avoid being run over by the car!

"I'm not going to ride the R1, cause I'm not Gay."

I think that sums up whether or not the guy has any interest in being objective!

    R1 vs Porsche-carrera

    I'll take the car everytime.

Here's one example - the best of the respective genres.

    Barcelona 2005

    Formula One - Fisicella's Renault - 1:15.641 fast lap.

    MotoGP - Gibernau's Honda - 1:42.337 fast lap.

Both machines will do 200mph. The Honda puts out 200hp for 1 liter (V5). The Renault puts out 900hp for 3 liters (V10).

An F1 machine minimun weight is 1335 pounds. This includes the driver.

A MotoGP bike weighs 345 lb's without the rider. Rossi must be 140lb about, so 485lbs.

Four big tires, brakes that slow the car to 50mph from 200mph at Monza in about 150 feet into Turn One. The F1 car is still on the gas for 2 brake markers while the bike must brake.

The issue has been debated for years and the car still wins. Nial was riding a stock R1, most likely with street tires. And he was racing a very good driver in an AWD Porsche. Mac is on the brakes and the car just goes by him.

The bike should beat him on acceleration and does, but after that bet on the car.

no! no! no! no F1.. no MotoGP.

we're talking about Porsche Carrera and an R1, and let's say the track is Deal's Gap? so who would get to the other end in less time? and in one piece?

the Porsche, a 450 motard would have a better chance than the R1 on the dragon

On the Dragon, the Porsche would eat the R1's lunch.

my 88 honda crx with sohc 1.6L motor making 128hp and at 2000lbs runs 1:16's at NHIS on race tires. the faster higher hp GT1 cars (V8s porsches etc..) run about 1:06's....

    if that's a better comparison than F1....

yeah, it rocked when Tiff Needell was on. better personality, a true compassion for cars, and a way better driver. Clarkson has me laughing every now and then, but not always because of his jokes.
