For fun. My bike history in CC sizes. 650 > 636 > 600 > 400 > 250 > 125. (not replacements, but extra purchases to the garage, still have the all of them). Each bike brought something else to the table. Grom and DRZ SM are some of the most fun for the street regardless of size.

    Street: 125 > 955 > 900 > 800 > 1100 > 998. Dirt: 300 > 250 > 0.

I'm not sure if the 955 or the 998 had more power.. probably the 955 if I had to guess?

Honestly this is pretty much a non-issue. 600 cc I4 racing is driven by that class of bike being the “production middleweight.” The middleweight class will live on via whatever the hell the mfg’s produce for that segment. I expect outside of the top tier of racing where guys are given bikes and paid to ride them, 600’s will continue to be MWSS+ legal.

As the original owner of a 2006 R6, I'm disappointed that it may now actually start looking "old". I have no plans to let it go anytime soon.

Also holding onto my WRR but I'd sell it for a WR450 dual sport if they kept the maintenance low.

the only issue is that race series' will have to rewrite their rules to allow the 2021+ R6 in it's stock classes...and i'm not just talking WERA, CCS, and club level stuff.

I don't see them doing it. At the top levels, the MFGs are already in talks with WSB to come up with a new, non-600 based MW class. It's also been VERY clear that WSB is for machines made for street use, which is where we get homologation specials. The other brands would block such a rule change while they are still producing class legal machines, and once the class changes, it won't be viable no matter what so... why would WSB do this?

I don't see Sean with WERA permitting it, this is the same series that doesn't allow 'double bubble' windshields in SS.

So you think that the 2021+ R6 will not be allowed in WERA (super stock), MotoAmerica, BSB, EuroCup, and WSS?

    That’s funny.

If the MW class moves away from 600s I would love to know what CCs will make that up.

Someone better get to producing then because there are currently more 600s in production at this point than both of those. The only 765 triple sport bike is a one off Daytona that as far as I know is the last of its kind from triumph. The only twin 959 is the V2 so not sure how they’re going to make a class from that at this point.

Re: No more R6 after 2020?

    KTM 890 twin
MV might homologate a slightly reduced displacement ver of their 800 triple?
    Duc has their 959 twin
Triumph has the Daytona 765 triple

On the big Japanese four, they've been involved in the talks so while they don't have anything right this minute matching those exact numbers it's safe to assume they've got plans that fit.
Honda has 1100cc twins, a racey 959 derived from them isn't out of the question
Yamaha has an oversized triple, undersized twin, oversized twin. Plenty of material to work with.
Suzuki I would assume would be doing something around their 1000cc twin, I'm not sure the SV650 platform has enough room to grow into that role, and no recent triples to tap.
    Kawi has the Z900 platform

Don't count the Chinese and Indian brands out, they have 700cc twins on the market, one of them has access to KTM's 790 motor, possibly the 890 as well. Mahindra contested Moto3 as late as 2017, Zongshen in the 250GP class a decade earlier so there is precident. As noted, this class change is being instigated by and developed with the MFGs, they aren't going to push for a changed class they can't compete in.

Re: No more R6 after 2020?

National Powersports in Pembroke had a 2017 R6 on the floor this past weekend. Under 700 miles, asking $10k. I don't think it's on their website yet because they're still waiting on some paperwork. Someone faster with a younger back should go buy it.
