    Question race bike number plates???

I've finished painting my new track bike... and now I want to put some number plates on the nose and tail... (nothing special, not yet going racing, just to complete the look)

My question is: Is there a standard format or shape for the background of the number plates on the tail? If not, how does everyone do the background before applying the numbers? If they're painted on, then how does one get them symetrical in shape on both sides?

    Hopefully this makes sense...

    Re: race bike number plates???

For my tail, I laid out some pinstriping tape and pretty much just eyeballed it. Once I had the outline in pinstriping tape, I filled in the rest with painters tape. I started by finding the centerline and equally spaced it from there. the front and back border I laid out as a continueous line that was broken by the top border on both sides. Came out good enough for me.

pin stripe and painters tape. although, i think it is easier to paint the plates.... then the rest of the bodywork.

Too late... the bodywork just got a "high quality", professional paint job.

(which means I pulled my brother out of his body shop, fed him some beer, and put multiple rattle cans in his hand...)

+1 My number plates came out way better then the rest of the bike. They actually make the bike look good.
