    Re: Race Trailer Recommendations

Maxim, any idea what your trailer weighs in at fully loaded?

I'd be willing to bet I'm pushing 5k lbs. Would like to get it weighed somewhere...

    Re: Race Trailer Recommendations

Is the Al like 50% of the weight on steel? If a V nose doesn't make that much of a difference (without testing at all, it just looked like it would make a difference, you know?) that's cool, I can get either.
Any downsides to Al (other than the added cost?)

Not sure the percentage so someone else would have to chime in on that, but it's a pretty noticeable difference.
No downsides other than cost that I'm aware of.

    Re: Race Trailer Recommendations

If you could get a trailer with the V-Nose at the back, THAT would make a difference. Up front, it's just extra opportunity to have too much weight in front.

Don't forget that when its parked at home that it can't be so big that you cannot open the rear door.

The trailer unladen is somewhere around 800lb, I forgot exactly, but I can lift the tongue and move it around by hand in grass. Loaded to the gills its probably 2500-3000 but usually closer to 2000 on a regular weekend.

There is a trailer dealer right on 106 by the track, seemed to have decent prices on aluminum jobbers.

IIRC, they are formerly Thule, which made phenomenal trailers.

    I didn't even know that

FWIW mine is a All aluminum 7x14, + 36" Vnose, 1950lbs, 200lb tongue, dual axel, 10" electric brakes...

Their pricing is the best I've found, if you're buying new that is. Ill obviously have it at rd2

Not true. Thule is now CargoPro; switch happened ~2005?

MFChop - ProLine trailers are just as good if not better than the Thule trailers. They would be my #1 pick if looking aluminum and I had the coin - good choice.

Don't ask lol. I got it with every bell and whistle possible

The basic trailer with those specs is 6,805. Also I forgot to mention it also has a 6'6" interior height

Thanks for the correction. The name sounded familiar.

Was it more than $10k. Unfortunately, 6x10 all aluminum horse trailers are.

If he got a full fat one from ProLine, it's more than JUST a cargo trailer.

For me, it was a matter of convenience. We paid a total of $11k for our trailer, but saving $$$ on hotels (@$100/night) and the trucking fees to truck Annalisa's horse pays for the trailer in the long run.

    Re: Race Trailer Recommendations

When I stopped into Airport Trailer to ask about enclosed aluminum trailers, I was told they don't weigh all that much less than steel because they used more material to be the same strength. They said the major benefit was corrosion resistance. I don't know how true that is. I ended up going with a used 14' enclosed trailer. I paid $2900, it was set-up with e-track and came with tie-downs. I painted the inside, built some cabinets, added wiring and 12v LED lights, and installed a Pitbull trailer restraint. I spent a little less than a grand on the inside of the trailer. It's plenty big for two bikes and all my gear and tools. I went with the cabinets to help get some shit off the floor, and make it easier to leave gear in the trailer between rounds. I am not going pull the plywood off the walls to insulate, but I am probably going to do the ceiling. It gets pretty uncomfortable in there when the weather is hot/cool, and the metal roof radiates into the trailer without mercy. I don't want to spend any more than I have. Money wise it may just make more sense to just sell what I have and get a light toy hauler.

    Re: Race Trailer Recommendations

BTT in Swansea told me they were about 2/3 the weight of a comparable steel trailer. But, the corrosion resistance is a big selling point. At the time I bought mine I was towing with a 3.0 X5. If I had my jeep then I may have gone with steel, but, it wasn't all that much more money, about $700 difference if I recall. The steel trailers were 1400#'s and min was 800 or 900 I thinks.
