    Re: Radar Detector

I had a whistler on mine, worked very well, cost only $100.00 Im selling mine used for $60.00 if interested.

However, State troopers use laser guns which can only be stopped by laser jammers. I had the cheetah on mine
http://www.cheetahusa.com/scshop/blinder.html paid $700.00. Saved me a bunch of times

I speed a lot but I speed wisely. When no one is around in a far distant highway such as route 89 in NH and VT where the only repercussions of my decisions lie with me and me only.

Personally, Id go just with the laser jammer. I dont ever speed on the side roads, way too dangerous. ( irony?) But on the highway, a laser jammer is your best bet.

well right now i have the escort passport 9500i, i have the replacement plan and they no longer sell the 9500i at bestbuy, only the 9500ix so i want to break my 9500i and get the 9500ix and mount that, it is a radar laser detector, i am just looking for ways to mount the damn thing, windshield might work but mine is painted black so im sure that cuts down on the range of the detector.

    One option weould be

The whistler has a helmet interface. Meaning there is a light you put on the side of the helmet that shines a small, undistracting light in your face to let you know of the alert.

Its very handy, and in a very time sensitive environment, it gives you the better edge.

I used this type of mount http://www.motorcycleradar.com/produ....htm#StemStand

Get a clear windscreen for days you use the radar detector.

I also got the h.a.r.d. system that alerts you in your helmet wireless with a blinking LED. Worked great when I used this setup.

    Re: Radar Detector

I use a Valentine stuck under the windscreen. The suction cups sort of hold it, and it's wedged between the instrument cluster and the windscreen. It keeps it more or less out of sight if I don't feel like removing it when I go in a store and protects it from the occasional light shower. It's aimed down quite a bit though, so that probably effects its performance.

This is a link that idratherberidin posted on 600rr forum for a gps mount...Im sure you can substitue the gps clip with a metal platform and velcro the radar on. Looks really clean too.

    Bike is gone

I made a sheet metal bracket that mounted outside on the mirror screws. Odd bends in a vise so the detector was level. Richt side because escort angle the panel that way.

The detector used its stock plugs and velcro to mount so I could remove when leaving bike or rain. I used an extension 12v socket mounted by the triple tree supplied with a ballasted 12v + filter. This way the stock spiral cable could just be plugged in.

I had a radar screamer that worked well but might get a HARD if I do it again.

I also probably would change to the adaptive MC one as its waterproof.

EVERY YEAR I believe it saved me at least 1 ticket.

Sunday morning 6am, how fast would you be going if your detector wasn't sounding off. I bet my V-1 saved me 5 times yesterday morning

I've seen mounts like yours, simple, easy to fabricate with a piece of sheet metal

I use a RAM mount, with ram ball attachend to the right control pod, the kit comes with longer screws to make it happen, long arm and a magnetic radar detector base, the V-1 remore adaptor, I have velcrod to the top of my heated grip control on the left control pod, quick and simple to unplug the unit, grab it and lock it in a side case or take it with me

RAM makes a zillion different types of ball attachments from the control pod one that I have, the common u bolt type for handlebars , brake/clutch reservoir mounts, etc.

    Additionally

Some think radar detectors not useful as instant on and laser instant ons are more popular.

I heard and believe that in the twisties with limited line of site that LEO's have their vascar types on all the time to register oncoming without their having to do OR aim anything. In fact it is my experience they were still on if they were parked or stopped to give a ticket.

So I still believe in the value
    ticket
Fine plus increased insurance etc. If you a dedicated speeder it is cheap even at $600

+1 to the RAM mounts - I have an older escort 8500 in mine, and it works fine. I dont run into laser that often, but radar certainly, and often constant-on from a moving vehicle

+1 to a ram mount, however be weary of the H.A.R.D. setup, the batteries in the helmet receivers tend to die without warning. Checkout the Vizalert setup here: http://www.phoenixbikers.com/products.php?cat=10

    Re: Radar Detector

I had a passport 9500 with lidar support and then sold it on ebay when I got stopped three times with the passport, first time it didn't pick up lidar on a wide open highway at ALL! I went by the cop and he pulls out behind me and I was like WTF he didn't hit me, but he had my speed to the tee, so he definitely hit me.

Second time 5 days later I got banged coming around the corner with an instant on radar, the detector went nuts, but it was far too late. Luckily no ticket, but quickly made me realize they weren't anything near full-proof. I just drive/ride more carefully now.

Plus when they do catch you, if you can't hide it quick, it never goes over well.

It depends entirely on the cop, in this state they are legal, but that doesn't mean the officer is going to like seeing a device sitting there that pretty much is used to prevent them from catching you doing something illegal.

So he was using the radar detector, and you guys were stopped, and you still want another radar detector?

    Exactly.

Which is why in the car I sort of have it concealed.

But on the bike... I don't know if I'd bother.

I used rip the thing out of the window and shove it in the center-consol as soon as I saw the lights flick on. It worked all but once....

I can't rip it off... it would take the headliner with it...

and I put the mute button here:

Truth be told... the best way to avoid a ticket is to drive (or ride) smart...

And... why is it... when people see a cop, they immediately slow down to 50mph when the limit is 65??? I hate that.

One of the best way to see if there's a cop ahead (on the highway) is just to keep your eyes open. If you see a lot of brake lights in the left lane, and the rest of the lanes, time to slow down.

Of the times I've gotten pulled over... it's because I wasn't paying attention and looking far enough ahead. And then a couple times on roads around town... so I just try to keep it sane in town, and keep an open eye on the highway.

    Re: Radar Detector

The times I have gotten a ticket in my car I was either being careless with my speeding or not paying close attention. The radar detector promotes that carelessness because it makes you feel safer.

it's not the presence of the radar detector that sets the leo off, it's your attitude

I've been stopped plenty of times with a radar detector, and it hasn't made one bit of difference, infact I've received warnings for going speeds in excess of a ton with radar detector in plain view and turned on bleeping away cause he left his unit turned on

I agree 100% I tossed mine years ago and drive more aware and I've gotten a whole lot fewer tickets because of it.

You're from NH so it may be different up there, but you honestly have no idea what you're talking about. I always have an honest, polite attitude with an officer. Yes sir, no sir, the whole deal.

The time I got caught with it in the window was the only time I got a ticket, the conversation:

Him - "Morning, license and registration, Where are you headed?"
Me - "Good morning sir, I'm heading to the University of Connecticut to take a final"
Him - "Do you know how fast you were going"
Me - "I don't know exactly officer, but around 80mph" (Wide open Rt84 in MA)
Him - "Well from the look of that pricey radar detector there you speed quite a bit, I'll be right back."

Came back, handed me the ticket, and walked away. I had a perfectly clean drivers record and all, I'm positive had I gotten the radar detector out of the window he would have let me go, positive.

    Re: Radar Detector

I got a Beltronics STi driver mounted high on the windshield of my GN. With help of the detector and some luck, I've never gotten pulled over for speeding when I've had the detector on. Haven't found a good way to mount it to my bike unfortunately. The double bubble windscreen is too curved for both suction cups to properly attach.
