possible raffle...

im putting a feeler out. im trying to talk a dealer into raffling off a toy. but in order for him to go along with it he wants reassurance that i can sell approx. 300 tickets.
i told him that it would be displayed at the track every race weekend and that i would attempt to get a reminder thrown into the riders meeting.
i also told him that i belong to a couple riders forums and that the new england one (NESR...thats this one) has approx 2500 members. so realistically i could get the name of the dealer out to 1500-2000 people easily.
he likes it.....
SO.....the question is....do YOU think we could sell 300 raffle tickets at $25 a pop?

the idea behind selling so many tickets is so the "donor" will get enough top cover the cost while still being able to split it with charity.
so lets say the prize is worth $3500... then we need double that so $3500 will go to both parties. i tried to talk him into writing it off as a tax deduction but he wasnt going for it.
its still not a bad deal and an understandable one from his POV.

i guess i could give it up......

SO....would you still buy tickets? is it a worthy thing to raffle off? is a 1 in 300 chance of winning a good enough reason to buy a ticket or 4?

I'd toss down for a ticket or two on an NSR50. An NSF100 would be even better.

That said, I'd beat him up on the price, that NSR50 is old stock, and they don't move well.

i agree that its not a perfect scenario and thats why it was a "possible raffle". its tough to spin it as a donation when its not. if i manage to sell 300 tickets then i want to put it all toward the charity...not half.
with this scenario we would be giving $4k to charity...hell....we raised half that at the drunkathon. i need to have another chat with him and really push the DONATION part of it. hes a business man and unfortunatly his only concern is "what does he get"...as it should be.
i think that this will have to go on a back burner until i can get the bike actually "donated", or at least at a minimal cost.
i guess we will put this on hold for now.
