I went down on Rt. 107 in NH this morning. I was in some traffic going around a corner around 35-40MPH when all of a sudden the rear end of the bike jumped up and kicked out to the side. Had there not been traffic in my lane I probably would have been going twice as fast around the corner. When the rear tire touched down, the bike snapped back and nearly threw me off. I managed to save the near high-side but by the time I recovered I was at the edge of the road. I managed to keep the bike upright for about 15 feet in the dirt while scrubbing off some speed but all of a sudden my front wheel sunk in the soft soft stuff and the front end tucked under and I ended up on my left side.
I got up, brushed myself off, and checked for any injuries. Other than some hurt pride my only noticeable injury is some soreness from hitting the ground. My Vanson's kept all my skin rash free.
The bike has only cosmetic damage. As would be expected, the left side plastics are rashed and I cracked the upper cowling. My left mirror folded up and slid with the bike but did not break. The front end is still straight, rear set and shifter were not touched, and the passenger pegs were not touched. All in all I was pretty lucky.
The person who was directly behind me said that a car going in the other direction had spit out a rock and it rolled right under my rear tire. I never saw it. I walked around for a bit and found it on the side of the road. It was about the size of my fist.
I debated going home and taking the day off but I was closer to work so I just continued my trip in. I've been riding on the street for 11 year now (since I was 16) and this is my first crash that involved a street bike.
Looks like I'll be hitting E-Bay for some plastics!
