First of all, I cannot believe that people find taking part in these types of events to be "Fun". Inner city living must be more boring than I thought (sarc.). Next, I for one, am glad that there were no guns involved. More people may have been hurt, and people may have even been killed, and this would have turned into a National Gun debate, instead of a National Ass-Hat debate. The debate on increasing Ass-Hattery is warranted. Another gun debate, is not.

    "A National Asshat Debate."

I don't know - with the government shutdown, they have some competition, now......

The guy who got the beating of his life while his wife and child lay undefended may have wished otherwise. Fortunately none of the people that chased a family down and brutally beat the father got hurt, that would have been awful because more people other than a innocent man would have gotten hurt. Not judging just saying, that won't be me...

If Lien shot at one of the bikers, what do you think would happen? Do you think any of the off duty police officers were armed? Do you think they would have seen it as a justification for them to use deadly force?

Who knows, the problem I have is he didn't know if he was just getting a beating or killed. At that point in time the invention of the attackers was unknown, not playing the what if game but if off duty cops participated in the execution of a man they attacked as a group pretty sure they would be up on murder chargers. My point is that he didn't KNOW the extent of the injuries these people meant to deliver to him and his wife and child.

as opposed to standing back and doing nothing while the guy gets beaten?

According to the undercover detective's account, he saw motorcyclists attacking the SUV but didn't see anyone harm Lien, Karasyk said Monday. The detective also didn't see the SUV hit Mieses, the attorney said.

Carrying no badge or gun, and aware that officers have sometimes been suspended or fired for blowing their covers, "he had no other option, so he drove away," said Karasyk, who works with the detectives' union.

Right or wrong, you don't think some of the participants thought they were justified? Look at it from the perspective of a guy on a group ride who just witnessed a hit and run.

Thanks Eric. That was my first thought. He absolutely would have had return fire in my opinion.

I like each and every one of our resident "gun guys" and Im a firm supporter of the 2nd amendment BUT in this case I dont think a gun would have helped the SUV driver and i believe it could well have seriously escalated the situation to a multiple homicide or justified homicide situation.

In this case he survived, we know the result of the altercation my point is he did not. Luckily he didn't end up dead along with his family and at the time he didn't know he was just in for a beating. Would people feel the same way about a lack of firearms in this situation if they all ended up dead? Not trying to play the what if game but I'm pretty sure if there were 3 bodies lying on the ground the no gun crowd would be singing a different tune .

Probably true. I think he sacrificed himself and was hoping for the morality of the attackers to be enough to leave his family alone.

That brazilian squid had a jacking coming, not wearing gloves like that. Damned squids.

Wow. Gun meets gun...and the good guys come out on top. I don't want to turn this into a gun thread, but that scene played out exactly as it should have, in my book. In the NYC scene, no guns were brandished, but the SUV became the equivalent of one. So, perhaps the robbery component becomes the focus. GoPro's can be your friend (depending on editing?)

Sorry I wasn't calling anyone anti gun I meant the people saying it was a good thing he wasn't armed yada yada... And no this is NOT a gun thread, but it is a thread about a family being attacked so the offensive and defensive aspects of what happened to them are the topic.

I love that video from brazil. Maybe fewer people would attempt to steal shit around here if they saw this as a consequence.

Like I said in the other thread: hijackings like that is just business as usual in Sao Paulo. The fucker had it coming. How fucked up would it be for his family if those were the last images of him that they saw?
