Well, that was a good read. It is interesting to see how other (non-motorcycle riding people) see things.

I laughed at how ridiculous a few of the comments were, like how it makes absolutely no sense to bring a bike that can go 180mph down there. Um, those bikes are sportbikes...motorcycles that are very well-suited to riding down there. The 'ninja-style' comment was funny, too.

I haven't been down there yet, but it is certainly a plan of mine to do so at some point in the future.

    HAHAHAHHA

That's a good one - I think that needs to be added to the list.

I really wasn't surprised by what it said. Sportbikes have negatvie connotations everywhere and I can see that being escalated in a place like Deal's where you get riders looking to scream through it.

I have never been so I can't say firsthand but I bet Mike will have something to add.....god forbid him missing something involving the Gap....

Not all of us can handle full-sized sportbikes.

I've ridden an SV, and it would need serious work to the suspension for me to like riding one.

EDIT: In in the interest of full disclosure I should add that the OE front suspension and brakes on the SH sucked pretty hard, too. The front end was very soft (can you say brake dive?). The brakes were really soft, too. Needless to say, I've addressed both of those things to my liking.

I ride with an SV guy and it did give me a fair respect of what those machines can do.

This article sucked for the simple reason that they based it around a local resident named "Johnson" who could offer nothing more than a prejudiced opinion. She may have been passed by a bike once or twice and now has some kind of complex because her S40 isn't the fastest wagon on the road. That's hardly worthy of an expert opinion, IMO. She claimed bikers were causing head-on collisions, then the cop states most accidents were single bike-only. The cop should've received more attention than the skewed beyotch who obviously expects the world to change so she can remain in her insulated bubble, detached from reality.

It especially bothers me that a person will choose to live somewhere with a pre-established culture, like Deals Gap, but then expects everything to change just so that she can comfortably ride her Volvo at 25 miles an hour, to and from the country store, whistling to her damn Michael Bolton CDs...

    RedRider,

Have you been down there? I think a lot of the people there have been there before the motorcycle crowd showed up in force.

I think the issue is there are obviously enough businesses in the are benefitting from the tourism, they aren't going to shut things down, and that makes some people bitter.

My experience was that almost all the cagers there drive quite fast actually. The locals sure seem like they drive faster than the Harleys!

A Liter bike may be pointless IN the Gap (Have fun in first for 11 miles) but there are plenty of other places in the area where the extra power would be fun.

    Ben

A volvo, listening to Michael Bolton

More likely a red ford truck, with a school bus tailgaiting her cause she's being held up by a couple harleys when a couple sportbikes blew past them. I doubt anybody's ever heard of Michael Bolton in that area.

You obviously didn't read the article well, I don't know who Gayle Brown is, but she has obviously been annoyed by sportbikes. Ron Johnson, owns the "tale of the dragon" website, (he is also the landlord of the house we rent) he knows what he speaks.

What this newspaper article tells me is: Be careful the next time I go there, there are more squids showing up and scarin the bejeezus out of some of the locals and they might not put up with it much longer no matter how much money it brings to the area.

i just searched all over the fuckin net to find a video clip of a commercial that I saw the other day but to no avail...

It would have coincided with this sooooooo well...

Here's the premise, although this is going to do no justification to the video.....

There is a guy on a park bench while his kid plays and there is a woman at a bench nearby facing him. He has a beverage in his hand. She looks at him with these cute eyes and then making the jerking off motion seen above. He gives a few inquiring looks and looks around the ark as if to see if anyone else is seeing this going on - noone around. She continues to make the motion so, eventually, he gets up and goes over there. As he starts to sit down the screen goes to the name of the drink and then cuts back to the guy walking away from her bench rubbing his head (the big one) while she has a pissed off look on her face. The ad then mentions how you have to shake the drink before drinking it. I apologize for not finding the video.....

Does anyone have a clue of where I may have seen this? I believe that it was online cause I think that it was a forgien commercial and it's buggin the hell outta me that I can't find it...
