I don't touch the thing. I practice with it alittle in case of certain (off-road, slippery) conditions.

    rear brake

I believe I read on the Tony's Track Days site that Tony doesn't use his rear brake.

I always use mine, but I dont know how much it helps you stop, I just like to keep the bike from nosediving.

Check out the Tonys Track Days site - they have a whole bunch of infor about front brake v. back brake tests, etc.

    rear brake

I touch my rear brake once per ride to keep the rust off the rotor

Use my front brake pretty much exclusively other then that.

    Cheers,
    Chris

But when we ride very fast motorcycles, we ride with immaculate sanity. We might abuse a substance here and there, but only when it's right. The final measure of any rider's skill is the inverse ratio of his preferred Traveling Speed to the number of bad scars on his body. It is that simple: If you ride fast and crash, you are a bad rider. If you go slow and crash, you are a bad rider. And if you are a bad rider, you should not ride motorcycles.

    rear brake

My rear brake is used to scrub momentum from the sprung weight; keeps the suspension taught; helps to keep the front end from lofting; can be used to slide the rear wheel to one side or the other.

Your motorcycle can slow down a lot faster when using the entire braking system properly.

    rear brake

I didn't realize how much I used it, especially in the corners till I put on new pads that squeeked. Then I was hearing it all the time.

I also use mine to bog down the motor and prevent the bike from going over in a wheelie.

    rear brake

i very rarely use my rear brake. the only times i'll use it are if the roads are really wet or sandy OR if i've got to make a really fast hard stop.

    rear brake

I use the front brake only for most riding. If I am on a wet road, or dirt then I use the rear also. I have replaced the rear pads with the softest compound I could find so that when I do need them they are there. Normally I don't throw enough heat into them for them to respond.

    rear brake

i use mine but only a little. Never stomp on it, Only for added slowing down power when coming to a light that just changed or a car that stopped short in front of me. The times when you need everythin you got to stop but I have only locked it uyp once so far and that was really early last year - learned my lesson.

I'm fat so I need all the help I can get when it comes to stopping fast

I have a SV, don't use either brake much except to stop from less than 10mph. I slow down by rolling off the throttle

    Exactly..............

I'm no pro but 70/30 is right on.
I use my front to perfect my modulation and to help with future panic stops.

The rear doesn't do much and just what you don't want is locking the rear and swinging it around IMHO.

BTW: technically my BlackBird has linked brakes so the front actually provides some rear.

    rear brake

I don't use my rear brake very often. However, it does come in handy when downshifting from high speeds. When blipping the throttle between downshifts, I sometimes keep light pressure on the rear to assist in slowing down. Of course, you do not want to use the rear brake when leaned over in a corner.
