So I stop at #-%*+=*% dealership yesterday and see a new 250 Ninja outside. Looks pretty nice, I can totally dig it

I go inside and see a you kind asking the parts guy how to make his bike faster. Parts guy says o yeah, there's a ton of things you can do to it. But then has to grab the phone. So I ask if it was his 250 outside? Sure enough it was. So of course I tell him a track day will make him way faster than any pipe will. Salesman is off the phone and says "well track days are nice...if you can afford to trash your bike"

Of course I go threw the usual speal of reasonableness and he has nothing to say

I talk to the kid a bit more and then ask what the salesman thinks will make him faster, pipe or track day. He was stumbling and mumbling and didn't give an answer.

I advised him to take the msf and told him about Tony's web site and NESR and went on my way. I can only think of what he told the kid when I left

If you pulled that shit at my parts counter and basically talked a customer OUT of spending money in my store... I would thank you for taking a crap on the showroom floor and throw you out by that back of your pants.

Maybe you would like it if someone had a conversation with your boss about how he could save money by firing you and outsourcing your job...

As a matter of fact. Three of my customers are attending the TTD event on Monday. They found out about TTD events because I introduced it to them.

I've done the same thing. Same situation. Now the rider I was speaking with is doing a TTD on the 28th I think.

Guy at the counter was trying to tell him he needs to buy all new Sharkskinz because he WILL bin it. I called BS in a polite way, then let it go. The guy later came up to me and chatted me up about it for 45 minutes. I guess he saw right through the parts guy's sales pitch.

Holding back the truth from a customer is the same as lying to me.

Customer walks up to a PARTS COUNTER asking about buying PARTS. It would stand to reason that he wants to acutally spend some money in said establishment on PARTS.

Now, if the parts guy turns out to be douche and tells him that he needs suction-cup mohawk, 300 rear wheel and stretched swingarm to go fast, that's one thing...

If a customer is asking about upgrading the exhaust on their bike... and some asshat comes along and says "You don't need an exhaust, you should keep your money and spend it somewere else", that's another thing...



And, If all you experts had any clue how to maintain a sales related career, in the MOTORCYCLE business, and earn a comfortable living doing it... you would be...

Not claiming I'm an expert. I'm pretty sure I'd end up going broke.

I will speak up when I feel someone is being misled. My situation was a bit different than the exhaust situation. I sure would of appreciated someone clueing me in when I was a new guy to riding. Telling someone they NEED aftermarket bodywork to do their first trackday is like being told you NEED the underbody rust protection when buying a new car.

BTW, my last 3 experiences with trying to buy anything at a dealer from a salesperson has been less than ideal. Parts guys? No problem. They tend to like me and I tend to like them. I know I'll pay more than I would on the internets, but it's usually easier.

hardly used but LOTS of milage... and comes with extra baggage!





... here's my .02.... Making a bike faster is different than making the rider faster/safer. If he/she wants to make the bike accelerate harder, a track day isn't gonna help... but if he/she wants to learn how to sharpen his/her skills so that they can make any bike they ever throws a leg over and get more out of what they've got and at the same time be a safer rider, then track days & rider education is the way to go.
