Jackie I'm glad to hear your doing OK. If you ever want stories of the harsh learning of what not to do let me know. We've pretty much all gone down here. Deffinately pick up some gear it seems so expensive but its way cheaper than medical bills. Rest up, heal up, and hang in there kid.

Still here. Been hobbling around work all week. Had a follow up appointment with the orthopedist yesterday, who said it's healing well. The stitches will be removed Tuesday, April 30th, and then they are going to do an MRI to see if there are any other problems with the ligaments and whatnot. I'm probably going to need some physical therapy to get the full range of motion back, but he said I can start taking off the bandages and bending the knee a little to reduce the amount of PT I'll need.

I think someone asked if I'm still going to be at the track next weekend for the races (maybe that was on Facebook though), but anyways yes I will. Hopefully not limping TOO much.

A girl from my MSF course went down the same way on the quick stop drill. She didn't square the handlebars and get the bike upright before braking and laid her Ninja 650 down.

Be careful. Hope ya feel better.

Well to address one of your concerns (I only read the first page of posts), though your legs may not be quite as nice as before, they're still only 5% as ugly as Pete's face.

Glad to hear you're relatively OK! It's definitely normal to be scared after such an 'off'...but do try to face your fears and get back on the horse. And, glad to hear we get to catch up next weekend!

Good to see you today Jackie. Now stop limping and get that knee bending! In all seriousness, if you have questions about what to do with the knee after stitches come out or if something feels funny and you're not sure if it's normal, just PM me.

Oh yeah shoot I forgot to ask you how your knee was Tuesday after you got your stitches out. How's the movement now that your not worried about ripping them out?

Re: My Recount of Yesterday (LONG)

Feeling a lot better. As Eric said, I had the stitches removed Tuesday. By that point I had it bent to 90 degrees so the orthopedist told me they will schedule PT if I need it, but I probably can get to full flexion on my own and just need some more time. Since then I ALMOST have full flexion on it but they put these stupid adhesive "reinforcement" strips over it and those seem to be the only thing keeping me from getting it fully bent. It has been more painful, because I'm pushing it, but most of the pain seems to stem from the fact that the bone is still bruised, not that the skin is pulling.

I got my left leg back up on the peg of my bike last night. Played around with the gear shift lever a bit that Pete was kind enough to straighten back out for me. The greatest progress though is that I managed to get up on the back of his Tuono last night the traditional way (left foot first). We didn't go for a ride or anything, I just got on the back and sat down for a few minutes. That's probably the furthest I've bent the knee since sitting up there pretty much requires full flexion.

    Thanks for asking

Just keep in mind that they put those steri-strips there for a reason. The fact that the tear was over the extensor surface of your knee means that this tissue will be under high tensile strain when you bend your knee, which means those tissues need to be more fully healed before really pulling on them. Give it an extra week or two to heal up before you go cranking on it. A little discomfort is fine, but if it really hurts stop what you're doing.

Glad you're feeling better Jackie and that you got your stitches out! You've healed up really fast... good to hear! That first time down sucks, but it makes for a valuable learning experience (and a crazy story someday!)

Re: My Recount of Yesterday (LONG)

also, i know it is fully cosmetic, but since you were concerned, keep that sucker out of the sun! scar tissue is very susceptible to discoloration when exposed to uv rays. lots of spf and capris for a while, trust me. rob has a nice blue scar from a rollerblading accident from years ago, and i got a nice one on my wrist when i was a kiddo that discolored as well. there are also scar treatments that you can start using pretty early on, but i would clear them with a derm before using them. do it right and it'll be barely noticeable in a few years. glad you can get it bending, i felt bad watching you gimp around with a straight leg all weekend.

Got back on it today. Rode around the parking lot where I had my first few lessons. Didn't even try getting it out of first gear, but did some turns and some quick stops immediately following left hand turns. It felt alright, but I'm still hoping my nerves don't win this battle.
